Hey guys, I am thinking about building an AR. The local gun shop has a Bushmaster lower receiver with stock for $295. I was just wondering if this is a good price and how reliable/durable Bushmasters are. Thanks!

You can get complete lowers from companies with just as good and in some cases even better parts (Stag lowers for example are milspec) FOR LESS ($200-250)

True, however after shipping (maybe 10, 15 bucks) and a transfer fee (that ranges from $20 to $50, depending on who you know and where you go), the less expensive stag lower could easily cost as much as the BM thats in stock. IIRC the only thing "more" milspec on the Stag compared to the BM is the buffertube for collapsable stocks.

I'm kinda partial to DPMS when it comes to assembled lowers, but only because of the de-milled M16 hammer that works with 9mm, as well as rifle calibers.

With stripped lowers, I really dont care, as long as they're mil-spec.

Considering the wait from some companies for some parts, and considering the BM lower is in stock, I'd go ahead and get it. I picked up a stripped BM lower locally to build the carbine I'm waiting on an upper for, the RRA lower, that the dealer ordered for me at the shot show, is now planned for another build. I may actually get it before I have the 20" upper and sully stock (already have a LPK).

Just got 2 Stag complete lowers w/ 6 pos stock. Final out the door price...$175 each.
RRA Stripped w/ consecutive #'s $110 OTD

Do it

290 is a absolutely a decent price for a complete Bushmaster lower, remember if you order a sweet deal of the internet you have to pay shipping + local FFL transfer fee.

For an assembled lower that's a good price. This is an XM-15, right? (Not the CAR-15, which is polymer) And personally, I love my Bushmaster. Sadly, I had to replace the lower with some off brand to comply with CA sillyness.

I love it when somebody posts how they bought somethig cheaper than what you are looking foe even though that information is of absolutely no use to you.
$295.00 is a decent but not spectacular price on a Bushmaster lower.
Bushmaster has a very good reputation on their lower receivers except for the triggers which tend to run heavy on the felt trigger pull weight.

If you can live with the heavy trigger, $295.00 is a good buy.
If you want a better trigger you can probably assemble a lower receiver using a Rock River two stage trigger assembly and high quality parts and you will save a few bucks in the process if you shop around. HTH

I would agree w/ RMT on stag. I've built on Bushie, RRA, and most recently
Stag and found S to be the easiest to tap together when it comes to a
stripped lower. That said, the Bs are still very durable, but you will spend
a lot more.

If it is a complete lower

Go for it. Sure you can get lowers for less, but by the tim that you throw in shipping and transfer fees (some stores will charge you with out you knowing) you will have spent just as much and wasted a week or two.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

I went to the shop and bought it. I decided not to go through the hassle of ordering/shipping and all that. Considering the lower is the only part that can't go straight to my door step, it can only get easier. right? :D

Depends on if you order a complete upper, or a bunch of parts to build the upper yourself:D

Things could get really hard on you if you get it put together, and then realize you dont have any mags to put in the rifle, or ammo to put in the mags...
