I was a big fan of trail boss, it allowed one to do things other powders couldn't. Getting case fill in black powder cases like 45c and 45-70 without fillers and crazy high primary ignition numbers. Then we have people putting in considerable effort to turn a 357 max into a 38 police special????

It does seem like he could use shorter brass and solve the case fill problem. Since he was lamenting the demise of Trail Boss and how bulky it was.

I know in my Henry lever when I want subsonic for the can, I run 38 special. If I want more power, I load up 357.

I wonder if there wasn't enough of a market. There seem to be plenty of people talking about it still and there are some crazy listings for Trail Boss on Gunbroker. But shortly after Trail Boss vanished, VV discontinued N32C or Tin Star ... their Trail Boss equivalent. Seems like Tin Star might have filled the gap when Trail Boss left. I know VV powders were priced at the high end a few years ago ... not so much anymore.

I had just assumed that ADI had fallen on their behinds but now I wonder if they aren't busy filling the need for propellant for the war in Ukraine. Even the Lovex / Shooter's World stuff is harder to find today. Isn't that produced by the Czechs? Maybe their capacity is going to the war as well. Alliant, on the other hand, I can't think of an excuse for. Well, maybe their Reloder / Bofors stuff out of Sweden.

I think Tin Star disappeared prior to TB.

IIRC, Tin Star was pulled and discontinued, because of pressure spikes showing up in the field.

As far as I know, Hodgdon and ADI are continuing the (likely fictional) claim that TB will eventually be produced again when the production problems can be ironed out.

I think the production problems involve EU environmental laws, and will never be worked (around) out.

If they ever do release 'TrailBoss' (my quotes) again, it won't be the TrailBoss of the past... it will be New and Improved TrailBoss, or TrailBoss 2, or TrailBessy, or something besides the old product, and I seriously doubt old data will be compatible.

I had a 357 max for a while. (10” Contender)
Accuracy with anything in 38 cases was terrible, magnum cases not much better.
If you wanted accuracy it had to be in max brass.

How diffrent is 700x. Hear the huge flakes are hard to meter. Never seen it.

I have 2 pounds of it in 308 cases that need torn down. I never shot any of them because i sold off the 308 Spanish mauser before I got a chance to go shooting. Maybe I should pull those rounds down and scavenge some donuts.

If you like loading the cavernous cases like .45LC and .45-70, you might try using them for what they were designed for. Black powder. You never have to worry about fillers and such. Or mosquitos, for that matter.

Depends on the firearm. Some clean up real easy. My Sharps, for example.

Remember it comes in 14 Oz not 16 Oz bottles so you may have 28 not 32 Oz in perfect storage

Like stacking tires in a dumpster. Dump out and start over. Different number each time. With trail boss you wont need to care about plus or minus some tires

I thought it came in even lighter bottles. 700X is 14oz. I have taken a liking to 700X for 38 special. It meters well enough for wadcutter loads.

A little Dawn, a little hot water...my BP cases come out just as fresh as the smokeless ones.
