If you buy a $200,000 house do you get a 1911? :p

HOUSTON — A Texas real estate agent looking to add more bang to her business is offering clients in law enforcement a free Glock pistol if they buy a home from her.

Julie Upton, a Houston-area real estate agent, spurned traditional buyer incentives like free gasoline cards or home improvement store gift certificates.

Instead, she placed an advertisement offering a pistol with the purchase of any home worth at least $150,000 in the city police department's monthly publication, "Badge & Gun."

The free guns are only for those in law enforcement, said Upton, who is married to a police officer.

"We thought it would be a good way to entice other police officers," Upton said. "And whether people want the gun or not, it has stirred up a lot of attention."

Upton has given away two pistols to police officers who purchased homes from her. The guns cost about $500.

And so far the advertisement has not generated negative attention from the anti-gun lobby, she said.

In Texas, no license is required to own a rifle, shotgun or handgun, but a permit is needed to carry a concealed weapon, according to the National Rifle Association.

SoCal,
Texas job market is good! What do you want a job doing?

The only problem I find is that she only gives guns to cops who buy 150k houses. That limits her market a bit.

Ok, so she is giving Glocks to cops who most likely already have glocks? Why not give them something else? Like an XD or nice shotgun? Just seems like the issue itself might be kinda odd since it would duplicate the guns. UNLESS since they are LEO's she is handing out glock 18c's then she is a bada** but I feel thats not the case.

There is always one

If she were giving away gold plated Kimbers some would want to know why she wasn't giving away platinum plated Sigs. I think it is great that she is doing this for LEOS. Lets face it cops don't get paid enough as it is and some smaller departments require them to purchase their own fireams. As it said in the story her husband is a LEO, he probably suggested the Glock and it probably is what his department carries. A lot of cops buy the same gun they carry all day. It just makes sense. I get that some people just don't like Glocks, I happen to be one who does. I find the suggestion of the Springfield XD somewhat amusing and frustrating at the same time. It seems as if everybody is of the opinion lately that if you like the Glock, you should buy the XD. Why? Yes the XD is nice but so is the Glock. I own two Glocks and have owned a couple others in the past and will buy more in the future. I saw the XD and liked the way it looked and felt. I liked it cause it was a lot like the Glock. I bought it. I hated it cause it wasn't a Glock. Not that it was a bad pistol cause I am sure that it was fine pistol. I found that it did not point well for me and I didn't like the grip safety. The steel mags that everyone seems to be in love with, I could not stand. They were incredibly hard to load and they didn't hold as many rounds as my Glock. Lets remember that there is good reason so many PDs issue Glocks or else they would all trade them in and buy XDs. Sorry for ranting. but I had to let it out. I feel much better now:D

I like the idea of buy a truck or house and get a gun.

I would be concerned, though, about the implications about the security of the neighborhood if the realtor thought it appropriate to provide a gun with the house.:uhoh:

This deal would be even better if it were a free house when you buy a Glock.
I have two houses presently, and only one Glock.
I'd be happy with more of both.

Glocks are a lot cheaper (No Excise Tax) when sold to LEOs.

actually since it isn't an official department purchase, there is no FET (Federal Excise Tax, 11%) exemption for individual officer purchases. this only applies when the department purchases them for official use.

Kenneth is on the right track, Glocks, when sold to LEO's, are about $400, plus sales tax (w/o night sights for a Glock 17, 19, 22, 23, 31, or 32).

I'm a realtor too, in Illinois....

Closing on a house for a cop next Monday. I gave him CO2 detectors. How unimaginative. I will have to print out this page to show him what he could have got.

I went down to my favorite gun dealer today and proposed that if I buy a new Glock, he gives me a house.

Didn't fly.
