Should I buy a ar-15 witch I don't have any? Or buy a xds 45 and 40cal shield? I have 7 handguns no ar. I could get more use out of the handguns cause I will carry them. Might shoot 30 rounds n the ar and put it up to collect dust.

You have 7 handguns and no AR15.

There's your answer. Get one now while they are cheap again.

May I suggest a Colt6920 =]

Are NONE of your other handguns carry guns? If that's the case, by all means get a couple carry guns. But if you already have a few guns that you carry, get an AR.

Why wouldn't you buy an AR and reload for it? Cheap to reload and lots of fun!! And you can change caliber very easily!

^^I knew that compromise wouldn't take too long to be brought up. It comes down to choice. The "AR craze" as I call it, is not without it's merits. It's a fine "weapon of mass distraction" (my autocorrect did that but I think it's a perfect phrase!!! I hereby patent that phrase.) Anyhow, if you don't have ANY use for an AR, then don't buy one. But just wanting one is reason enough to buy one. Maybe you are just a pistol guy. And that's fine. Many people have more than one carry handgun. Variety, the spice of life.

Given the OP's post I think the OP wants support for not buying an AR15 even though he wants one. My suggestion to the OP is just go with your gut feeling. Buy the AR. You know you want one and if you don't buy one now you will by one later. So the sooner you get the AR the more fun you can start to have. After all whats the purpose of having a handgun when you don't have a rifle or even a shotgun.

Odds are that you will use your handguns a lot more than an AR, but . . .

- you only got 2 hands
- you can't carry all your handguns
- handguns can't reach 200 yards accurately with any ease

It's always good to have options. No long gun in your arsenal is a limiting factor. Can't reach-out and touch. Note that it doesn't have to be an AR. You NEED a long gun with capacity, whether it's an AK, AR, Mini-14, SKS, 700, or SU-16.

I vote AR15 definitely if you already have handguns and don't have one. Remember the old saying, 'A handgun's the best way to fight your way to a real gun'. :)

I'd rather have the option to be 300yrds away from something I had to shoot than 100yrds.

Edit: Also what Onward Allusion said.

I would suggest a balanced diet. Do you have any other long guns that you would or could mention. Or just a yes no. If you don't have any balance in your diet, you might end up suffering someday:rolleyes:

I'd take the AR too. I'm not a fan of the whole "I have 37 guns in my carry rotation" thing. Pick one gun that works; carry it. And an AR has so many uses. HD, plinking, hunting, fondling, etc.

I own dozens of rifles/handguns. None of them is an AR. I have nothing against them. In fact, I think it is a fine weapon. It just doesn't float my boat. I have friends with ARs so, if I ever get the urge, I have them available.

If you are buying one just to say you have one, I don't see the point. If you are buying one because you think they are cool and fun to shoot then that is another story.

Handgun I can carry

Might I suggest you re-think the idea of having a large variety of carry guns. I've one that I dress around when possible and carry ~90% of the time. Two others that cover the other 10% so I can at least "have a gun". Maintaining draw and point shooting proficiency with these takes more than a little effort as it is, so no point thinking about adding another into the mix.

God forbid you should ever need it, you will be on auto-pilot and any thing that breaks the routine you've practiced could be very bad.

I am a pistol guy with a few rifles and shotguns in the safe, and I too didn't want or need an AR. Last Christmas I was surprised with an AR under the tree. So now my status has changed from I don't want or need an AR to I didn't know I wanted an AR. It immediately became my favourite rifle at the range. I had no idea what all the fuss was about and just how much fun they are; I have seen the light.

Therefore, add me as a vote to get the AR because you don't know what you are missing. My only word of caution is that these things are addictive. I have only been an owner for less than two months, but my web searches have already migrated form AR options to looking for the next AR.

I had no desire for an AR until about 5 or so years ago when events dictated that the desire change.

I now have two and love to just shoot them. I reload my own and feel good about having an "evil black rifle" and just love showing them to the more liberal brethren amongst us.

You've answered you own question.....already. Puttin' one mag of ammo thru a firearm IMHO, is not a good reason to buy one. The idea one should buy something just 'cause they don't have one already, just to have it, unless they are looking at a collectable, is foolish. Especially if one looks at the size of an investment such as this. If the time comes when you think that you may actually get some use outta a AR, you can always sell a coupla handguns to fund it.

I own several guns I've never even gotten around to firing. The frequency of shooting it doesn't dictate to me whether or not to buy it. If it's a cool design or sometimes just a really good deal I'll pick it up even if I don't get around to shooting it.

OP - Buy it and even though you might only shoot a mag out of it, you might fall in love with it after that mag is done. It's also the most common platform in the U.S. so good to have for S.H.T.F. scenarios.
