Buyer Beware on GB

He's not selling reloads or even "remanufactured".......new bullet, new brass, new primer and new powder:D means..........NEW.

No, buyer got EXACTLY what was advertised and described.

OK, I guess I see that, it's all new component and the buyer got what was advertised, just maybe not was he was expecting. The devil truly is in the details.

That seller DOES have an FFL, the FFL badge is shown right next to his user name.;)
He has "way too much for sale" because HE IS A BUSINESS.
Business are often required to collect sales tax regardless of where the buyer is located. In fact GUNBROKER now collects sales tax on behalf of sellers.

In less than ten seconds I looked up the sellers 07FFL (Manufacturer). What him having an FFL has to do with being deceived or getting a refund is beyond me.
Simply feeling deceived isn't a crime and not the fault of the seller. Not knowing what you are buying or hoping that what you are buying is actually what you want is not the fault of the seller. Last spring I had a customer buy a S&W M&P Shield. Next day he brings it back because its jammed up tight with a live round in the chamber. He had gone to Academy and bought 9mmMAK/9x18, not 9mmP/9x19mm. "It was all they had". It wasn't Academy's fault for not making it clear that the two are not interchangeable.

Seller has left retaliatory feedback (F's) on every dissatisfied buyer. One dissatisfied buyer is one thing, but Reeds Ammunition has multiple bad feedbacks due to the vague description of what he is selling. There's a reason he doesn't post photos......its not manufactured by Nosler and is manufactured by Reeds. He doesn't want to show the plain white box or other packaging to indicate its made by him. That's not a scam, but weasel marketing and almost always tarnishes a sellers reputation.

Carefully read his GB listing:

1. It's new PPU brass.
2. It's loaded with 130gr Nosler Accubond bullets
3. 20 rounds per box
4. Velocity and energy are his own calculations.
5. Nowhere does he state its manufactured by Nosler. Again....No WHERE.
6. The last line of his description gives his website address...........of his company that manufactures ammunition!
7. Go to that website, click on the blue "Online Store" button, then Rifle ammunition>Metric calibers>6.5x55 and you'll see the various loads for that cartridge.
8. Click on the photo and violins!:D Guess who is shown as the manufacturer?;)

In no way am I excusing Reeds for anything. I don't think its a scam but definitely smarmy. When one buyer is confused about what he bought most sellers edit their listing to eliminate confusion, unhappy buyers and the possible bad feedback. But Mr. Reed didn't do that.

He has literally thousands of good feedbacks on his ammunition.
It's possible that what the OP received is better than what Nosler makes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but nowhere in the item description did it specify PPU brass. If it had, I wouldn’t have bought it. I was willing to pay the price to have the Nosler brass to reload. Just sayin’...

You aren't wrong, nowhere does it say PPU brass. But I'm sure by now you know it also doesn't say Nosler brass either.
You jumped to the conclusion you wanted, not what the seller was selling. That isn't his fault.

PPU is some of the best brass around. Nosler is just a good name in bullets.

but I do fully understand being a little upset about the deal. It’s obvious he is trying to make it look like he is selling “nosler factory” ammunition. Not his factory. Just by being vague in the description. I don’t think he is committing any crimes though. Just kinda slimy of him.

Not saying it’s his fault, it’s mine for not researching more thoroughly. The whole point of this post is to warn others, many who are new to shooting and GB, to do their due diligence. I did not.

Good of you to own up to your part; however, that does not excuse Reed's deceptive adveretising. Follow thru with your complaints for the sake of others that also may not read as critically as you are now aware of.

This should be the same OP posted about. It is still showing on the GB website.

OP if it is not, let me know and ill delete it.

Sure reads like seller is representing the ammo as “new” based on the language in the sellers auction.

Stay safe.

That one pretty much says all you need to know.

The item characteristics tab/link takes you to “other”. If they were proud of their product they would flaunt their work though, doesn’t seem like that to me.

Sure looks less than above board advertising to me. I’d be pissed too if this was my buy. There’s no mention of the seller “Manufacturing” this ammo even if he is using using “new components” and specifically naming Nosler-brand Accubond bullets.

Similar but different:

I bought a gun off GB that the seller listed as a “.38 Special Victory model” S&W that had been cut down to 2” and refinished. Since collector worth was zilch I bought it cheap. The seller, a Houston-area pawn shop, did not list that it was made using the original .38 S&W cylinder hogged out to .38 Spl length. This bubba-job caused every fired case to expand and split upon firing so cases had to be popped out with a pencil.

In this case I cut the seller some slack, as he most likely took the gun in as-is on the sellers word and never fired it. (He certainly didn’t take any time to clean it!). The seller may legitimately not have known that it was basically useless as sold, so my feedback was still an A but it did mention the issue. (I ended up buying a complete .38 Spl K-frame cylinder off eBay, had an armorer friend fit and time it, then sold it as a .38 S&W to .38 Spl. butcher job.)

In this case the seller appears to be making the ammo himself, he’s not buying bulk factory ammo or relying on someone else to tell him what it is. Since he also deals real factory ammo and liberally sprinkles pictures of factory ammo boxes in those auctions, it’s double-dirty in my book. :fire:

This wouldn’t be an issue at all if he had just a bit of easily understood wording somewhere on these auction pages letting bidders know the item isn’t “new loaded” ammo, it should state it is ammo loaded using “new components” or something similar...especially when his other for auction items are for apparently genuine factory ammo.

Lesson learned to read feedbacks and evaluate negatives before clicking the bid button.

Stay safe.

I'm not going to comment on the marketing, but Reed's Ammo has been around for at least 17 years. I know because I purchased 7.62x25 ammo from them back about 2005.

The ammo was of excellent quality and I recommended it to several friends at the time.
I'd be willing to bet the ammo you purchased is better than what's sold by major US ammunition manufacturers.

In my opinion, the PPU brass you got is much better than the stuff made by Winchester, Federal or Remington. It may not be quite as consistent as the Norma brass Nosler uses, but at least it's a true .480 inch head size unlike the .472" US made brass.

Gunbroker is trash. They will and have deleted negative reviews for high volume sellers and do absolutely nothing about scammers and fraudulent sellers.
There are better options out there than a gun casino. Roll the GB dice at your own risk and pray the seller is honest.

I believe this Reed, is the same person or family, that in conjunction with Zeglin, developed the 22 Reed express, an imperssive little cartridge capable of defeating body armor in a pistol. They used to make barrels for the CZ52 until they were stopped. There was is comperable European cartridge too, but I don't remember wjat it was.

Rio -

No disrespect intended , but your "similar but different" example is much more different than similar. The revolver in question was presented as a modified (read : hacked-up) Victory. Any prospective buyer knew that they were looking at a firearm that was extremely out of spec. I guess it would have been good if the seller had noted the original chambering , but he probably did not note that the barrel originally had a locking lug for the ejector rod either. That is something the buyer would only know through having done a bit of background research , such information being readily available through many sources.
(For the record , I once bought a 5" BSR , original finish , reamed cylinder , produced split cases. In my case I knew it was reamed but did not research the possible downside to that...just had to have it!)

In the OP case the ad information was misleading , intentional or not. (However , the warning signs were pretty obvious i.e. no photo , negative feedback)

Always pay by CC that way you have control over less then honest sellers. I had an issue on GB where I listed some bullets and it was one of my first listings. I had a buy it now of 125 for 500 30 cal bullets for loading. Some how the bidding got turned on or was on and it had a no reserve. It sold for 10 dollars. I refunded the seller complete and told them it was a mistake and oversight on my part but I can not sell them for 10 bucks. He was very ticked off. Oh well.

I see both sides of this equation. Seller was a little shady. “Factory New” was purposefully left out. Because it’s not factory new. It’s loaded ammo. I don’t shoot ammo others have loaded unless I know them. There are only 4 people who’s loads I will shoot. Buyer was a little naive. Always read the description. The full description. And if you have a question, there’s a place to post that. Unfortunately, in today’s market, there will be sellers that won’t answer questions because they (correctly) assume that someone else won’t ask and will just bid. So just be careful.

Having said all that. Short of the custom ammo makers that use proprietary powders unavailable to the public, I guarantee you the ammunition I produce in my reloading room is better than what comes out ammo factories. And at a fraction of the cost most of the time. So Reed’s ammo very well may, in fact, be better ammunition than factory.

What do you mean “was”? I’m still ticked.

To (re)manufacture and sell ammunition you must have an FFL, maybe you point this out to the seller and obtain return shipping and a refund.?

I'm sure the ATF would LOVE to bend a little guy over a barrel for loading and selling ammo w/o a license. They love bullying the helpless the most.

Not that this seller doesn't deserve to have the screws put to him.

ETA: Since the seller has and FFL, he's probably covered on that front and selling fraud ammo I don't believe is something the ATF investigates. May be worth contacting them to find out tho.

Gunbroker allows you to file a fraud report. I'd do that in addition to a negative review. What's puzzling to me is that there are numerous companies selling reloads and doing so successfully. Claiming your ammo as new when it's not is not necessary, unless their goal is to charge a premium for what they claim is new ammo.
GB's fraud report is worthless, you don't even hear back from them.

The only alternative is to file a report with the BBB and even then you're about guaranteed to not get your money back, but the point of it is to make it as much of a zero sum game as possible.

No, it IS "factory new", not just Nosler factory new.
Again, too many people are reading more into this GB sellers ad than what is there.

I don’t shoot ammo others have loaded unless I know them.
Never shoot CCI, Federal, Nosler, Speer, etc? :scrutiny:

There are only 4 people who’s loads I will shoot.
Who cares? The company the OP bought from isn't some guy reloading as a hobby, but an ammunition manufacturer. The two are not at all comparable.

Buyer was a little naive. Always read the description. The full description.
Yup.
