Buying a .243

I have shot my new Walmart $99 Remington 700 .243 (and a 7mm RM also at $99) enough to sight in and did grab some ammo for it back in the summer. The ammo amounted to more than the rifle. Shoots great, scope was on the money, just needed some tweaking. I need a die set for it now and some bullets. The .243 being a new to me cartridge I do not have a lot for it. I did not hunt with it this year, I used my new Walmart $179 plus $50 rebate Savage Axis II in stainless fitted with a Boyd's stock in 6.5CM to draw blood this year. There was a ton of 6.5CM on the shelves long after most other ammo had gone so I stocked up. But it is scarce now as well and again, I need a die set for it in due course.

Both the Walmart and the Attwoods near me still have a few rifles in stock but no ammo. Might check a few places like that. I think there will be hunting caliber rifles and ammo back by next hunting season. Just will need to be persistent.

I went to Cabela's Saturday, they had put a little bit of ammo out. There were five (older) fellows, each holding their limit while one was on the cell phone to (his buyer) wanting to know what he could get for the ammo. Apparently the buyer wanted it, the guy on the phone nodded to the other men and they all marched of leaving the shelves bare. There is where you ammo is going.

This is why a box of bullets on gunbroker and others are 50 to 100 dollars people see an opportunity to get rich .

Really like the .243, lots of choices in factory rounds at a reasonable price during normal times. You can really zero in when reloading also. I have a Ruger m77 MKII VT, great shooter but heavy. Thinking of a Tikka in .243. I have a couple of friends with Tikkas and I’m very impressed.

I bought a couple boxes per deer rifle last yr so proly dont need any for this season.

Rifles still zeroed ( aint moved scopes around LOL )

I went to Montrose sporting goods, in PA, on Saturday, he had a decent selection of hunting rifles, had a model 788 in 6mm rem that had gorgeous wood, would have loved picking it up, but I was after primers, only lpp in stock. Also had a bdl in 280 rem, drool, I did pick up an rcbs collet bullet puller with 30 cal collet used for 20.00 so not a wasted trip. Needed a bullet puller, now I need some more collets for it.

I had a 788 in 243. Very accurate. Wished I had not sold it.

I bought a .243 a few years ago because, (I thought at the time.) it was easy to find ammo almost everywhere, No one dreamed it would get this bad. It is really scary.

I need to see how the 95gr WW deer season XP does in my 700. The reg 100gr sp shoots decent but was not a wow in initial effect.

Shot a deer w that load in a diff
243 and the 8pt wasnt too impressed
