After an exhaustive search, i think I have settled on getting a G23 gen4 for carry. Heading to a gun show this weekend and will be looking for a new one, not interested in a used one. What should I be looking for, if anything when I find one? Like was there a recall or something and i need to check if it has the updated part? How can I tell by looking if it's new and not used?

Also if you feel the g23 is just crap, or not as good as something comparable then throw that in as well since the show is still a few days away. But i have really been looking and it seems the g23 is the way to go. my only concern is it being too wide to carry but hopefully that wont be an issue in a supertuck + crossbreed belt.

Also, is it better to get the glock night sights, or get the regular sites and have your own night sits installed?

Better to go with adjustable night sites, or fixed?

Would adjustable night sites fit in the supertuck?

thanks! :uhoh:

On a new gun, you should just have to look for the typical things. I'm not aware of any recal of the Gen 4 G23, though I know their 9mm Gen 4s had a few problems starting off. As for making sure its not used, that shouldn't be too hard. It should nave no fouling in the barrel or in other parts of the frame. Look in hard to clean spots to make sure it hasn't just been cleaned up. A used gun will likely also have some slight wear on the top o the barrel where the slide has rubbed off the finish wen it was recoiling Honestly, even a slightly used (or very used but well taken care of) Glock will still give you years of good service.

Gun recommendation wise, it's hard to beat a Glock 23. My only qualm about it is I don't like the .40, and that's more preference than anything. I'm partial to the 3rd gen 9mm Glocks like the 17 and 19, and am a pretty big fan of sig 228/229s and the Walter P99/PPQ dosnt look too bad either. The G23 shouldn't have any issues printing with a crossbreed super tuck and a good belt. In fact I was concealing my sig 228 (a bit wider than the G23) last night with just a black Tshirt that was pretty tight and didn't have to worry about it. Obviously it wasn't a deep cover kinda thing, but it worked.

For night sights, I would recommend getting them done yourself after you buy the pistol. I think it's slightly more cost effective, but the real reason is that you can choose exactly what sights/sight picture you want instead of just bein stuck with whatever Glock wants you to have.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't go to a gun show expecting to find a good deal on a new gun. Maybe a slightly used one, but not NIB. I think you'd come out better at a good shop or in the FS threads on web forums.

Sorry for any typos, I'm posting this from my phone...

Is the show price going to be that much better than an internet price ? I've only been to one show in the last 5 years, to be honest, and the prices on the new guns seemed even higher than some LGS.

Look for a S&W M&P. I have seen too may ejection issue with the gen4 Glocks. I use a gen3 G-17 and it is very reliable but so are my other three S&W semi auto's.

I've got a Gen 2 Model 23 that's my truck gun. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. A new in the box Glock, you shouldn't have to worry. We have several Glocks in the family. Not my primary carry gun, but for rough use and reliability I choose one.

I've been two (wow...) two gun shows and been very disappointed with the prices... The Interweb beats everything I've looked at easily.

Thanks for all the replies. Well i went to the show today. Only one single new G23 G4, and they wanted over $600. Went home empty handed.

It seems no national wholesalers have this gun in stock at the moment, which blows. Dealer says he should be able to find one, will wait and see.

Just ordered the supertuck in horsehide w/combat cut. I've done alot of research, and this should be a pretty badass combination ... effectively doubling my firepower (8rnds 9mm vs 14rnds .40s&w). And the .40 should be a little more tame in the gen4 due to the new recoil assembly.

:D

We have a NIB gen 4 G23 with 3 mags at our shop for $550. PM me if you want it. Shipping is around $15ish.

If you buy a new Gen4, make sure it has this ejector. .357SIG models will use the same ejector as .40.

If you still experience erratic ejection with the new ejector, that means the extractor needs to be replaced.

Probably won't get the best deal at a show. Typical pre-tax on Ohio is going for $545 with one store at $519. Just for reference. I've seen gun show prices above $600.

Your concern was my concern. Sold my 23 and got a 17.

Prefer the the 19 for IWB though.

Get the G NS from factory, unless you already have a sights pusher.

Mine is the Gen 3 and it runs flawless. The gen 4 has no report of problems so far except for the G 19.
