Ok so I know that a person can buy a firearm and then gift it to someone else so long as they are the actual purchaser or the firearm. My question is can a group pool their money and then sent a member to purchase a firearm to give to a third party as a gift?

Example: My little brother is about to graduate and the thought has occurred for my mother and I to go in 50/50 on a 1911 he has been wanting to give to him for a present. I would take her half, since she is firearm illiterate, combine it with my half, go to the LGS, buy the gun, and then after his graduation give it to him as a gift. Would this be a legal?

yes it is,but if the kid is legal age to purchase, give him the cash to purchase it so he signs the 4473 himself.if he's over 18,but under 21,your above would work.it's not illegal for him to have it,just purchase from an ffl.check bama law

Alabama law is 18 to own and carry. He actually has his Concealed Carry Permit but is only 19. I know exactly which one he wants and we thought actually giving the gun would mean more than money for him to buy it. Just wanted to know if we could legally do what we were thinking about.

As long as the purchaser is a legal buyer, family pooling of money for a gift isn't a straw purchase. The gun is not being bought for any of the providers of the money to the actual purchaser. Further, it's not being bought for a person who cannot have legal possession.

Thanks for the help guys. Now I just have to go and find one. Oh darn gun shopping again:D
