Buying gun for friend as a gift

I was wondering what the best legal way to go about this is. My friend is planning on taking up hunting with me so i was thinking of buying him a decent rifle for deer/hogs. I haven't picked anything out yet but I was wondering what the best way to go about it is. Should I just give him the money so he can do the 4473. Buy it myself and do the 4473 myself. Or is it possible to go in and me pay for it but him do the 4473 without them thinking its a straw man deal.

Forgot to say. Both of us can legally possess a firearm and would have no problem passing.

Apparently as long as he has no idea... and you arent compensated in any way you will be just fine.

The straw purchase regulations, as ridiculous as they are, allow for gifts.

Just buy the gun as if it's yours and then give it to him as a gift. I bought my buddy a Springfield 1911 for helping me build my shed.

Buying as a gift for someone who's legally righteous to own a firearm is not a straw purchase.
