I only have two guns, a Ruger 22/45 and a Kimber Custom II. I am planning on building up my collection slowly, so I can be sure that I'm actually buying guns that I like, and not accumulating trade fodder that I'll lose money on. My next gun was going to be a Remington 870, but the recent passage of California's ridiculous microstamping law has made me rethink my wish list. Because handguns will be unavailable here shortly, I decided to pick up another pistol instead. My next couple of guns after that will probably be a Garand and the Springfield M1A Scout. I figure I can always pick up the 870 and a CZ 452 Trainer later.

Does anyone else do this?

personally, i'd go for the shotty just to be well rounded (you have the .45 handgun already).

it's only $200-$250 so it shouldn't be a big impediment to other purchases.

lastly, you may want to post this over in rifle/shotgun/autoloader sections. Strategy and tactics is more for "software" i.e. mindset type strategies over hardware issues/concerns.

I do this too. My next one will be an AR carbine. I want to buy it before they figure out a way to ban them for good.
OTOH, hopefully the supreme court will finally come through for us on the 2nd ammendment.

The microstamping becomes law in 2010. So while handguns will be available for the next couple of years, I have a feeling that prices will go up due to increased demand.

Were I still in CA I would definitely concentrate on getting the handguns I really wanted before 2010; they are highest on the endangered species list. Next would be the M1A, then the M1.

Buy guns that will either be affected by a AWB or that will fall off of the CA "Approved List".

I would start with getting one or more AR's, mini-s 14/30, M1A, or any other named gun in 10/22.

Why does California have to act like a communist country instead of a free state??????????

Because the of the trader govanator who has turned into a girly man Kennedy kisser.

Handguns will be availible after the microstamping bill, but prices continue to rise. I have my C&R license, which is useful if you like the classics (like that Garand).

Also another note. Handguns that are currently on the DOJ certified list are not required to have any microstamping technolog. Meaning unless the manufacturers let the models fall off they will continue to be on sale in CA.
