Living in Florida I don't need to worry about CA and MA compliancy but my curiousity got the best of me. In regards to the S&W Shield I see that S&W has specific models that are CA and MA compliant. I did a comparison of three, my non compliant and the CA and MA models. The only differences I see is that the CA compliant has the 'red flag' loaded chamber indicator. The MA doesn't have that but the trigger pull is 10.5# vs 6.5. With the features already in place are these the only changes S&W had to make to the Shield to meet the CA/MA requirements?

Pretty much. To be MA compliant it must have a 10+ lbs trigger pull, a round in the chamber indicator and in MA the peep hole works but not in CA. 10 round or less mag, NA with the shield anyway. The other thing is it has to pass a drop test. That goes for every model, every caliber. So just because the M&P FS 9 passed they still made them test the FS 40.
