Posted this on "Where are there reloading components for sale" thread but starting a new thread to alert THR members looking for primers - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...onents-for-sale.707473/page-159#post-10608316

I have not seen primers priced this low in a while.

$19.99/1000 for all SP/LP/SR/LR primers with $20 HazMat and $5 shipping with 77SHIP promo code on $99+ orders (expires 8/3/17) - http://www.cabelas.com/product/sell...edium=AFF&utm_source=35987&rid=12&WT.tsrc=AFF

Also

Remington primers $27.99/1000 - http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/prod...duct&WT.ac=YMAL-741162&WT.z_pg_ref=prd2002898

Winchester LP/SR/LR primers $27.99/1000 - http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/prod...oduct&WT.ac=YMAL-741163&WT.z_pg_ref=prd741162

I bought some the last time they were $20 per 1K. SP, LP, & SR. There is a thread about the LR S&B primers and possible differences in them going on right now.

All I have tried so far are the SP, with no complaints. They seem mild in my limited use so far.

Interesting - I ordered SP/SR/LR primers and yes, I will be loading for .308. I can verify whether LR primer is 5.3 LR or 5.3 LR SE before using them for .308.

SP primers will be replacing 12,000 Fiocchi SP primers (I am down to last few boxes) I have shot in recent years with happy results (all of my posted load development last few years). I also plan to do CCI/Fiocchi/PMC/S&B/Tula/Winchester SP primer comparison for velocity and accuracy.

SR primers will be joining CCI 41/CCI 400/Tula SR/Tula SR .223 for .223/.300 BLK loads. I could do a comparison test if there's interest.

I got plenty of Winchester/Wolf LP primers I am happy with so I didn't order any S&B primers.

Going to head to Cabela's tomorrow to pick up some S&B primers. My wife made me inventory my stock and I found out all I really need is some large rifle. I'd like some small pistol and will pick them up if they're in stock.

Just got off the phone with Cabela's customer service and they were not able to verify whether the LR primer sold by Cabela's is 5,3 LR (V361612 Boxer/0.63) or 5,3 LR-SE (V360542 Boxer/0.70) based on information printed on the primer box or the documentation they have from the manufacturer.

According to Sellier & Bellot Products/Components page Usage Guide, 5,3 LR-SE primer is listed for .308 Winchester - http://www.sellierbellot.us/index.php/download_file/view/675/163/

Cabela's representative I talked to was helpful and he will be contacting Sellier & Bellot for verification. I will wait for verification from Cabela's before using S&B LR primers for reloading .308 Winchester.

Hazmat fees are not set by the retailer or manufacturer. Neither are shipping fees. Government does that. Commerce Dept. I think.
Sellier & Bellot are in the Czech Republic so State and Commerce stick their fingers in.

Not all retailers have the same hazmat charge. There may be governmental edicts that determine the minimum it can amount to, but retailers are free to mark that up just like many do shipping charges. While many retailers offer $20 hazmat, I have seen one that charges $28.

As well, this hazmat charge is for the shipment from the retailer to the end-user. I really doubt these are drop-shipped from CZ. Commerce and state may influence the transaction between the retailer and a foreign manufacturer, but I don't see where they would figure into the transaction between Cabelas and their US-based retail customers.

Hazmat may be a government thing, but I thought it was the shipping company (it's been awhile since I studied that and I could be wrong). I used to have to ship and receive Hazmat but it's now been a few years.
Shipping fees however are absolutely set by the company doing the shipping. The only way around that is for the retailer to either get a special rate on shipping for a limited time or eat the coat in a bid to attract more business and/or customers.

EDIT: That price isn't particularly appealing since you are only saving $3.50 on shipping. Typical Hazmat fees for powder/primers are $28.50 up to 48 lbs. The local Cabela's always has S&B primers in stock at that price.

I looked at these last friday and didn't see any magnum pistol primers. Are those an option with the S&B? Or are they dual use primers?

Currently out of SPs :(but you are able to back-order them:)-3 to 4 weeks estimated
Here is what S+B web site currentl shows for a usage chart. I don't see any of the V#s on ths boxes of SPs I have)
SR, LP, LR in stock as of last night. Usage_Chart.jpg

Update to post #5 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...0-hazmat-and-5-shipping.824550/#post-10609620

I got email response back from Cabela's and looks like S&B LR primers Cabela's sells is the 5,3 LR with 0.63mm cup thickness (and not 5.3 LR-SE with 0.70mm cup thickness).

I will do careful work up of .308 loads using 168/175 gr bullet and Varget/H4895 powders and will post my results.

"Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for shopping with Cabela’s!

Thank you for your patience. We understand that you had requested some information on the measurement of the Large Rifle Primers (item #218684). We apologize that it had taken several days before emailing you with the information as we had to contact the S & B Customer Service for the correct sizes. This is what we were informed on the Primers:

5,3 LR – the nominal thickness of cup is 0,63 mm, and the primers are determined for civilian rifle cartridges, for standard rifle guns and hunting.

5.3 LR-SE or 5,3 LRM and the nominal thickness of cup is 0,70 mm.

If we may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or by email. Please reference both the Order Number as well as the Case Number by either method for information.

Sincerely,

Elaine G."

I am fortunate enough to have a Cabelas near me. They seem to always have the S&B primers "marked down" to $19.99/thousand from $27.99. Good price and no haz or shipping

.63mm and .70mm, they are awfully thick primers!:)
