Anyone have any info on a auto that appears to be the same as a CZ83 in 9mm Kurtz but appears to only have the markings CAI which I think just means it is military issue for some country imported here by Century Arms? Guess my main question is did several countries copy the CZ 83 design or is this pistol really made by CZ even if it is not marked as made by CZ? I have only seen some pretty poor pictures of this auto and it's in bad shape finish wise but appears that it will still function correctly. I am thinking about buying and hoping for a little more info. Thanks!

I went to the CZ board and did see that there has been several of these CZ83 types imported from Israel. I have never seen one of these in person but am guessing that these are CZ copies made in Israel. If anyone has a decent picture of the Israel Military surplus CZ83 would they care to post it. I would like to see how they were marked & if anyone has first hand knowledge of quality of such please share. Thanks!

This CAI marked CZ 83 is on Gunbroker:

Pistol in question I am asking about "is Not"marked the same. As a matter of fact unless the seller had stated that it was CAI marked the pictures are so bad I cannot read it. Pistol is not marked CZ or 83 anywhere that I can see. Appears to be marked "she 89x" above trigger guard on right ejection port side.

I have one of those. Mine does say CZ-83 on the slide, and it says PW Imports on the other side. Mine has what looks like some kind of parkerizing on the frame and then a matte blue on the slide. I always thought it was a European police turn-in, but I'm not sure.

That's the CZ logo to the left of the words "Mod. 83" on the slide. The one in the link is a CZ. Do you have pictures of yours?

It's just a CZ that has been imported by CAI. Nobody copies the CZ 82/83 to my knowledge.

Pictures are so bad it would do no good to post. The pistol in question I cannot see a CZ or an 83 on and I am taking the word of the seller that there is even a CAI on it. I would rate finish at 25 to 30 percent but it appears it will work comes with mag. & the grips are not broke. I have seen enough good things posted about a CZ 83 to take a shot on this one mainly because I expect $100 bucks to buy it. I would like to find out if its a copy or made by CZ. I get to check it in person on 8/27/15 so will maybe get a few answers at that time. Thanks!

Apparently many of the recent CZ-83 imports were 'turn-ins' by the Israeli Police and Corrections Depts. At least a few were listed on Gunbroker about a month ago.

The OP might realize this already, but neither the CZ-82s nor the 83s were copied in any other country. The 82 and 83 use the same magazines. Factory magazines labeled "Uhersky Brod" on the package are authentic. My authentic mag from "the Czech Republic" holds ten instead of twelve rounds, and has No Markings-None.

Good luck with some aftermarket types. They might not be worth the lower prices.

My collection includes three Makarovs, two Polish P-83s, a CZ-82, and my next handgun will probably be a CZ-83.

Thanks .... I did not know this!

the "she 86" indicates that it was made by CZ in 1986. CZ's are still marked "she".
Thanks for this bit of info also as it tells me I am just looking a CZ83 in real bad finish shape and lousy pictures. If I can purchase it I may send the top slide to CCR in TN and have it coated. I think it will function fine but its sure seen a rough time if it was military issue. Thanks for the help and the sharing of information.

After I got the help on THR I went to Gunbroker and looked up a CZ 82 and regardless of what the seller had posted the pistol in question is a CZ 82 not a CZ 83. Here is a CZ 82 for sale on GB:http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=501266144 Same marking placement as the one I am looking at. Actually it is a better buy at $225 than the one I am looking at would be at $100 because I would have $200 in it by the time I pay shipping and get the slide redid and still have a rough pistol. Thanks!

I would stay away from that one. As the description states, the double action doesn't work. I wouldn't pay $225 for a broken CZ82.

According to another website, probably Makarov.com, the CZ-82 and 83 have approx. Twice as many components as the actual Makarovs.

I would not want to even contemplate buying/trading for a handgun which requires detailed repairs, requiring how many very tiny parts to be replaced by a gun smith not used to these guns?:uhoh:
