Okay here’s the thing. I’ve been looking at a 9mm carbine for some time and I am down to two options, a Calico M951S or a Beretta CX4 Storm. I was thinking of the H&K UMC but one, its too expensive, two I don’t like H&K (long story), and three I don’t like .45’s especially when I’m looking for nothing more than a strong plinker/emergency gun. Any thoughts on the two weapons I’m looking at? i know the 40 S&W is better in power and all but seeing as i have little hands on experience whats its price compared to a 9mm?

Beretta--- The Calico is just too -- wierd for me. Beretta's are quality..

Of course me? I got a $159 HP 995 and a crap ton of ammo...

:)

The Beretta is one sexy looking carbine, but that Calico w/ it's optional 100rd magazine and unorthodox design would be very cool to own. I wonder why they never really caught on.

The Calicos are neat, but the fit and finish on them feels kind of chincy.

I know it's not on your list, but if you've already got an AR, what about a new upper in 9mm for it?

They never caught on because they where made in Cali, then the AW ban hit and killed them, the ban lifted and there back and selling.

I'm a lefty and bought a CX4 for its ambidextrous operation. It is a great weapon. Very well designed - ergonomic, good internals, good sights, light, etc. And it uses the same mags as my 92FS, so i had no further mag investment.

It is easily capable of putting 15 rds in a row into a cinder-block a 200 yards. I mainly use it for jackrabbits, and take it hiking and camping.

That being said, I'd get it in .40S&W because i like that round much more than 9mm.

As for the Calico, i'd like to hear from an owner if they are built well. The only one i've handled rattled without getting shaken, and was all over the page...more for sprayin' and prayin'.

It was probably 4 years ago, so it was probably a pre-ban...but it left an impression as a POS.
