Forgive me if this is already-trodden ground...

I was told today that you can no longer buy just a frame and slide for a pistol in the "great":barf: state of California. Does anyone know if this is in fact true?

I was under the impression that one could buy a frame and slide combo that were the underlying components of an already approved handgun in CA. For example, Les Baer's Premier II has been approved in CA. They also sell the frame and slide separately. Can this be purchased by a CA resident?

TIA,

HRB

All new handguns must meet drop test requirements in California.

Bare frames, non-functioning or incomplete guns, or guns that do not properly function at the time of testing are not allowed to be tested and therefore cannot be sold as new in California.

There are three solutions for you.

1: Buy a new gun in California for the frame (such as an SA GI 1911).
2: Buy the gun you want used, but it must already be in the state and must be local (PPT only).
3: Buy a house in another state, buy whatever handgun you want, bring it to your California home and register it.

Unfortunately, California's drop test requirements, which cost about $2000 per gun (even different colors!) keep small manufacturers and unpopular models out of the state.

I believe if the model is already approved under the California crap test (I mean drop test)....Then there should be no problem buying just the frame.

Call River City Gun Exchange and ask them.

The frame is not a firearm, cannot be fired bare, and cannot be certified.

If they require individual testing based on color variations, they certainly aren't going to allow a stripped frame to be sold as new.
