I took the new written test for the Handgun Safety Certificate today, and its easy. I got a 100 percent without even looking at the "study guide".

With that phase done, its now a matter of proving residency.

For the record, has the DOJ supplied a COMPLETE list of acceptable "Proof Of Residency" forms? I know that deeds, utility bills, and leases apply but what falls under the "other" category that I keep seeing on the DOJ website? Anyone know?

I called DOJ and they told me a satellite TV bill was ok as well as a bill from your ISP (not AOL, though). If you have questions give them a call or email them. The guy I talked to was pretty cool. He also said that they're currently revising the residency documentation listing for other category.

Thanks for the reply.

Oops, I meant to post this in the laws and regulations forum. I accidently posted it here.

20 bucks to get the HSC and yup, still the 10 day "cooling off period".

What a load of crap that is. I guess if I wanted to do harm to someone I couldn't possibly use one of the other 9 handguns, 3 rifles or the shotgun that I have access to.

:banghead:

You got it Airwolf. When you've got guns already, the waiting period is irrelevant. We need to take back this state.

$25 for me too at Sharpshooters in Torrance. Did the self tests off the net and the actual at at the range. It's basically common sense. (The first copy they gave me to complete was all in Spanish; had to return it for one in a language I use daily, thank you very much).

What?! They're requiring us to take the test in Spanish?? This is absurd! I mean, what's next?!

Oh, well. Just another hoop to jump through for us California gun owners. I guess its for our own good. I'll just learn Spanish now to execise my constitutional rights. No big deal, just one more little hoop.....

I'm getting so used to these little hurdles and roadblocks that I imagine we will be saying stuff like this one day.

To 4v50 Gary:

I am terribly sorry but I must correct your punctuation IMHO.

"When you've got guns already, the waiting period is irrelevant"

The part of this sentance that precedes the comma is not needed.
The correct sentance is "The waiting period is irrelevant."

To prove my point in my state (ILL) a woman went out bought a gun waited the 3 days to pick it up , waited another 5-7 days and then went and shot her husband and both of her children prior to shooting herself. See how much the waiting period helps ?

Respectfully ( and with tounge in cheek )

Yes, the waiting period is irrelevant. In my case, I've remarked to the FFL I buy from (tongue in cheek, of course) that the reason that I'm buying a new gun is that I didn't want to use any of the guns I already own to go hold up the local liquor store and off the witnesses. I don't mind waiting...

In the long run I am becoming more and more convinced it is a means of separating you from you money. Look at the deficit old Gray ran up. He has to make it up somehow. I wouldn't be surprised to see the "bullet" tax come back. They could start it low, 1 cent per round. Before you know it, it would be up at 5 or 10 cents.

The BFSC was sufficient. Did you have to do the safe handleing part yer?

I think the two things that toasted me the most were the limited selection of handguns under the "approved" list of handguns and the 10 day wait.

There are so many guns I want that aren't on that list. I'm in KY now so not a problem but if I return to CA someday, I may have to leave some guns behind. I hated the 10 day waiting period. When I lived in Bakersfield, I often bought guns at the now defunct B & B Sales in N. Hollywood due to their amazing inventory and good prices. 100 miles each way. Drive down to buy and then to pick up. What a pain.

If the Latino population could be convinced to vote Republican, all this crap would go away. It may take awhile but once the Latino middle class gets a stronger foothold, there are going to see how the Democrats have treated them like slaves. I can't wait for the pendulum to swing!

Yeah, the 10 day wait is pure stupidity.

An instant background check system, like some states use, would be so much nicer IMO.
