California to Texas, Can i remove my bullet button?

Hey Folks, i usually just lurk but love the site. Great info and good people here.

I have moved to Dallas Texas permanently.

I just got my Texas license and am flying back to California on Friday. Load up the truck and driving back with my dog and my long guns.

I was told i don't need to register my shotgun and AR here in Texas, and don't need to tell California that im taking them to Texas.

What im unclear on, can i now remove the bullet button/CA legal stuff from my AR. It is registered in CA and its a post ban lower, so it has and always has had the bullet button. Would it be an issue to put a regular magazine release on it here in Texas, or would that still be a felony because the gun is registered as a rifle with a bullet button?

Would love some Clarification here. Thank you for your time.

Nope, no federal issues at all when it comes to the "bullet button," that's a California thing. There's also no registry, no magazine capacity limits, and concealed carry licenses are "shall issue." Welcome to freedom Swilling, you're gonna love TX, I know I do.
 
Awesome, thank you very much. It's something i've wanted to do for a long time (born and raised in Australia) Moved to California 6 years ago, finally lined up a job out here.

Easy, guys... if you tell him all the things we don't nanny people about, his head might burst. He has to be deregulated gradually so he doesn't hyperventilate.

For instance: Swilling, Texas doesn't care how many bullets your hunting rifle holds; they figure you're only gonna shoot the animal as many times as you need to.

I know, I know... it's ok... just put your head between your knees and breathe....
 
Ha ha, yeah, well my head was exploding already in California due to how more lax it was compared to Australia, and now here its an eye opener. But yes, im glad i had the California Mid-point to allow some slight decompression. As Australia to Texas could kill a man in one breath ha.


Seriously one of the main reasons i moved from Australia was Hot Rod/car laws... INSANE back in Oz. Then california got too strict for my liking, so now im here. The firearm laws, the space, and cost of living are all bonus ontop of being able to drive/tag just about anything i want.

California law means nothing in the state of Texas.

Just don't bother trying to get any CA purchased firearms off of CA's gun registry. It won't happen. When I moved to AZ, I decided to try. I was basically told that the only way was to file a law suit and prove my guns were no longer in the state.
 
Wait, wait......You mean, once you register a specific firearm in Cali, it STAYS on that state's books, even if the gun is taken out of state? Hey, that makes perfect sense, in a California kind of way. :neener: Welcome to Texas!
