I know this is horrible, but I never really paid attention to the new handgun law that I know the bastards passed that would require the magazine disconnect and the loaded chamber indicator because my reps vote against all of these things and we are pretty much screwed in this state. Also I have all the handguns I want, so I didn't think I would be in the market for a new handgun.

Well now I am firearms dealer!!! I should have my license by December 1 or so, but when this new law goes into effect, what is that going to do for Glocks? Are they planning on doing anything about this? What exactly does the new law say and what are the major manufacturers doing about it? I might have to do some quick advertising in our local paper and play off of this thing and sell a ton of hanguns just in time for the New Year. Anyone know what is going on?

I found the info.

SB 489 (Stats. 2003, ch. 500) (Scott)

Requires that effective January 1, 2006, no semiautomatic center-fire pistol model may be added to the roster of handguns certified for sale in California unless it has a chamber load indicator or, if it has a detachable magazine, a magazine disconnect mechanism. No rimfire semiautomatic pistol that has a detachable magazine may be added to the certified list of handguns for sale in California unless it has a magazine disconnect mechanism. Effective January 1, 2007, no semiautomatic pistol may be added to the roster unless it has both a chamber load indicator and, if it has a detachable magazine, a magazine disconnect mechanism. Handgun models that have been placed on the roster prior to the new requirements becoming operative may remain on the roster without these features (PC §§ 12126, 12130).

Exempts the sale, loan, or transfer of any semiautomatic pistol that is to be used solely as a prop in a motion picture, television, or video production by an authorized agent of the entity producing the production or event from the requirements pertaining to the roster of handguns certified for sale in California (PC § 12132).
My question is, how is Glock going to get around this? Are Glocks out after 1/1/06? What else will be out? Help me make a list so I can start selling them like mad.

All pistols on the approved list prior to 06 will be exempted as long as the maker keeps paying the state to keep them on the list. All new handguns submitted after the specific dates will be required to meet the bogus safety requirements.

2006 for chamber load indicators and 2007 for magazine disconnects.

So Glock doesn't have to do anything but pay, unless they create a new model.

This law should never have been allowed to pass. The leftists love to pass these delayed action laws. It prevents a sense of urgency in their constituents, and we get to deal with the results maybe long after the laws author is gone.

Ah, I read it a little more carefully and I see what you are saying. So everything currently on the list stays as long as they keep it up to date.

So should I start a rumor that Glocks are out after the beginning of the year and sell them like mad anyway? Just kidding. The sad thing is in this state and the way gun owners pay attention and sometimes how often they check facts, I could totally get a way with it. :(

So what will they do about revolvers?

And how does it "improve safety" if all guns already on the roster, without safety features, can still be sold?

So stupid.

Hence it is only harassment of gun owners or those that want to buy a gun.
Law enforcement is exempt from this law. That means that all the dangerous bad handguns are magically safe in he hands of law enforcement. I don't know how such a bogus law can be legal.
