Called Sig Sauer today about dead night sights on my new XMacro TacOps

I have three Sig Sauer M17's / M18's that I bought new. On all three of them, the so-called "night sights" were so dim as to be useless, right out of the box. This can't be "sample error." Maybe it's because of my aging eyes, although I doubt it.

Anyway, OP, don't be so sure that the replacement will be any better than what you had in the first place. If you reconcile yourself to the idea that the "night sights" are a gimmick, then you can appreciate the rest of the gun.

I do expect better, new sights. I've had night sights on other gun and have never needed to use them so I don't know aboout them being a gimmick.

Good deal. I had a front sight pop off (the actual dot, not the whole sight) of an HK and had a great experience and offer to send a new front sight replacement.

It’s been a year+ and the sight never came.

But I replaced it with Trijicon anyway, love that yellow dot.

Had a Yugo SKS with the original radium inserts still in place. 70 years old and they were still plenty bright. Hey, a little radiation never hurt anyone, right? :D

70 years old based on what? The Yugo SKS with radium sights wasn’t made 70 years ago.

I had the same problem with an Sig P365 that I bought new about 3 weeks ago. I didn’t realize the front sight was dead when I bought it. The green fiber optic ring worked fine of course, but the tritium was dead. I called Sig, very little wait time on the phone, they emailed me a shipping label, I sent the slide back, and had it back in my hands with a working front sight within 10 days. Overall I was happy with the customer service…

BUT, I do think Sig needs to take a look at their sights…. Seems like dead sights are a commonly reported problem.

Very common from what I've seen here and at Sig Talk.

It will be interesting to see how the sight holds up over time and shooting. If it fails again in a short time, I will probably replace it with a different brand of sights than Sig. The gun has been otherwise perfect. I have decided that I like it better when I am using 12 round mags which have enough extension on them to get a better grip when drawing from holster.

Why not a simple solution: 3 dots filled with luminous paint? Something that doesn't deteriorate over time. It seems to me that these "glowing" sights are mostly a gimmick.
