My father just passed away and while in the process of going thru the house I found something I need help with. I have a silver coffee pot trophy which reads, "Best Shot Camp Perry John G. Justice June 18th 1890". Google has nothing on the name and Camp Perry didn't exist until exist until 1909 or so according to Google. Any info or better place to look for info would be great. Thanks. Wonder if this was another "Camp Perry"? Our BSA summer camp is named Camp Perry, perhaps this was another by same name???? Very interesting item. Look forward to any information found.

Regards,
hps

I found a Camp Perry Virginia, but the dates were after 1890. Maybe there was a Camp Perry, not in Ohio, that was decommissioned, and the memory has been lost.

Tullahoma Tennessee has plaques and remnants of "Camp Forrest", which was a WW2 base. I knew a man who went through basic and advanced field artillery there. I have driven around the current AFB and National Guard range, which had to be inside the original Camp Forrest. Camp Forrest must have been giganotosaurus to have enough space to live fire field artillery, have the space for Arnold Air Force base National Test Center (and landing field), and the barrack space for the thousands of men trained there. Barrack chimneys are still standing in areas well away from the National Guard range, the AFB, and the National Test Range. Camp Forrest has a historical monument by a tennis court. You would not know of its existence without the monument. The veteran I talked to, he is gone. Died about five years ago. It is safe to say there is no living memory of the place.

That might be true of your Camp Perry. 1890 predates the Spanish American War.

That is Camp Peary, Va. It was where USN Seabees were trained for WW2, it is now a training base for classified activities. Camp Peary (also known as "The Farm" wasn't owned by the US Gov't prior to WW2.
