Hello Everyone, I just registered today but have been reading this board for several weeks now. I have a couple of questions. I am an Arkansas resident and will be going to the Tulsa gun show Apr 5 & 6. I plan on buying a pistol but need to know if I will legally be allowed to buy since I am not a resident. I know that FFL dealers and private dealers will be at the show. If I try to buy from a FFL would I have to an OK resident. I assume that if I bought from a private seller it wouldn't matter.

1. Can an AR resident buy a gun at the Tulsa gun show.
2. If I can buy a weapon will there be a waiting period.
3. If there is a waiting period would I have to have it shipped to one of my local gun shops.
4. Anything else I should know.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the High Road. :)

I'm moving your question over to Legal & Political. Pretty sure someone there will give you a good answer.

Thanks for the reply SaxonPig. I live in Rogers.

What you can do is make arrangements will a local FFL to transfer any guns you buy. If you find something, buy it and have the dealer hold it. Then when you get home have your FFL send his license and have it shipped to him for transfer to you. It means you have pay extra for shipping and whatever the FFL charges for transer but this is the only way to be legal.

I'm a little confused by the above. Earlier you said a non-resident couldn't purchase a handgun. From the quote above I CAN buy a gun but I will have to have the FFL dealer ship it to my my gun shop in AR. By doing this I would get around the illegality of a non-resident buying a handgun.

The only thing I worry about with this method is getting ripped off. I pay him for the gun and don't get to take it but have to trust him to ship it to my AR FFL dealer. Am I being too paranoid here or is this a pretty common procedure.

Another unrelated question can I buy a gun from a dealer on the internet and have it shipped to my AR FFL. Is that ok?

Your interpretation is correct. You may buy a handgun and have it shipped to your FFL in AR. As for your question about internet purchases, you may buy a firearm from any person in the US and have that person ship the gun to your local FFL that then transfers the gun to you.

This is common and if you buy from a legit FFL (ie one that has a real store somewhere in addition to selling at gun shows or over the internet), you are fairly safe about not getting ripped off.

Depending on the type of guns you buy and how often you purchase outside your home state, you may want to consider getting a "Curio and Relic FFL". A C&R allows you to buy firearms that are over 50 years old or firearms listed as collectible by ATF, and have that gun shipped to your house. This includes purchasing C&R firearms from non-licensees in any state. If you are physically at a gunshow/store in another state, you can use your FFL and take the gun home with you.

You should talk to your Arkansas dealer first, and get the full name of his shop, FFL number, address, telephone and so on. Also ask him what his transfer fee is and make sure he's willing to do the deal. Make all those arrangments before going to the show.

And don't forget to visit the Davis Gun Museum in Claremore, just up interstate 44.
