I just inherited a broken and woodless Stevens model 335 double barrel shotgun. I can not find any date but I could find a serial number. Can anyone do me a favor and possibly date it? All of the information I can provide is below.

Stevens Arms Company
Chicopee Falls, MASS. U.S.A.
85353 (serial number)
Model 335

I will really appreciate any assisstance you can give.

Thanks in advance,
Crazy

Its is at least 62 years old. Probably older in fact, as Savage bought them out in 1920 and they are out of Westerfield Mass. Not Chicopee Mass.

Stevens Arms was an American firearms manufacturer founded by Joshua Stevens in 1864. The company introduced the .22 Long Rifle round and made a number of rifle, shotgun, and target pistol designs before being bought by Savage Arms in 1920. After 1920, Stevens made training rifles and machineguns for the US Military. Savage stopped using the Stevens brand by 1950.

Edit: Further research indicates it isn't pre-1920 even though it carries Stevens brand and address. A 1920 335 is in the 50000's for serial number, which means this specimen is likely 1930's-50's (assuming war production during the 40's means none were made then).
