Can someone tell me why Ruger will not make 10 rd mags for the Mini 14?

I just can not find 10 rd mags for the mini-14 at any kind of decent price. Being in Calif. that is the limit. Which is fine for me as I don't need 20 or 30 rd mags for target shooting. But, there is a very large potential sales gig here, just can not see why Ruger makes 20 round mags and not 10 rd mags which he could sell for the same price as the 20 round ones. It is just something I do not understand. Does someone know the reason?

Thanks, I can find Mason mags, but I want Ruger mags as they always work for me. Have had trouble with other makers. If Mason can make them and sell them, why can't Ruger do it? That is what I do not understand. He could make them using less material and sell them for the same price as the larger ones. ????

Yes, thanks, but my issue is that I can find 20 rounders on Gunbroker for less than that, and not one 10 round mag listed. There just aren't many around, and not for what the larger ones run as far as cost goes.

Having had aftermarket 10-rounders for mine that refused to function, $35 is not excessive, it is a bargain.

California is one of the very few states that have a 10-shot mag limit.
Most other states have no capacity limit, or at most a 5-round only max for big game hunting.
That makes 5-round, and 20 or 30 round more widely used all over the country.

I suppose the Kalaforastan market just isn't big enough for the Gunbroker sellers to go after.

try the Tapco mags, they work just fine in the mini-14... I bought the 30 rounders and they lock in tight and work..

Not being from California, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that factory 10-round mags for the Mini-14 are hard to find as compared to 20 or 30-round mags. It is another sign that Ruger has moved on from the Bill "No honest man needs a gun that holsds more than 10 rounds" Ruger days.

Now you know why I moved from California to Texas. I lived for 50 years in California and think that it is the most beautiful state in the Union but it costs more to live there and some of their laws are pretty hard to swallow.

I own several guns that would not be permitted in California.

Ruger has 10 round magazines for about $35 a pop but you can find used standard magazines for aroung $10.

I have lots of 20 and 30 round AR 15 magazines that I trade for 10 round AR mags because I prefer the smaller mags for the ease of shooting from a bench on bipod or sandbags.
