I presently have a Beretta Neos U22 and would like to trade it in on a good all-purpose revolver of the same caliber. After much shooting, I find my Neos is fussy with ammo and stubborn about chambering certain types, plus it has a terrible trigger.

What I want is something that has a GOOD trigger, ACCURATE adjustable sights, good sight radius, and something simple to train my grandchildren on.

It doesn't have to be new; I have had good luck with used revolvers, having read and memorized Jim March's invaluable article on what to look for.

I guess I'm a die-hard revolver type; I just love that single-action for plinking and varmint control.

What do you suggest??

Best Wishes....

Look for a model 18 K frame S&W or ,imo, the best small .22 revolver ever made, the S&W model 34 (blued) or 63 (s/s). It's J frame size, 4" barrel, light weight and adjustable sights make it perfect for teaching younger shooters. I taught my then 10 year old son and several others how to shoot using a 63.

I would'nt recommend a Taurus 94. It's about the same size as the S&W but has one of the heaviest D/A trigger pull i've saw on a .22. To bad, because the gun could have great potential.

I will second (or third) that about the S&W's. If you want to go single action, the Ruger Single Six is still a great one, and their Bearcat is a small and light .22 that kids like.

Second the S&W 4" M63.

S&W stopped producing then in 1998, but it shouldn't be hard finding one.

I have one that my 13yo and I to plink with, and we both love it.

Thanks for your recommendations...

I agree with you on the Smiths....I've owned a couple of them and you gotta love those factory triggers. However, I think most of them are going to be out of my targeted price range.

I did stop by my favorite gun store (Autrey's Armory) and checked out a Ruger single six in stainless with a nice wood grip. I believe it has a 4' barrel with interchangeable LR and WMR cylinders. Nice SA trigger and fine finish. Adjustable sights and I may actually be able to afford one.

I have no problem with SA only; most of my shooting will probably be just that.

We shall see.......

Single-Six, or the Heritage Arms clone very similar to it.

Ruger SP101 in .22 LR (fun to shoot and DA as well).

S&W 617.

Failing that, the old reliable automatic Ruger MkII.
