I am wanting to take a black bear hunting trip in Canada in the fall of 2012. Does anyone have any recomendations of where to hunt? Any suggestions? Advice? Anything to avoid? Any & all info is greatly appreciated. thanks

You need to decide how you want to hunt. There is spot and stalk and more commonly sitting over bait.
I went spring bear hunting in Ontario years ago. The operation catered to bow hunters and I was using a rifle. I sat over stinky bait being eaten alive by mosquitos and black flies despite liberal amounts of Deet and face netting and never saw a bear. If you didn't see a bear, the outfitter said it was because "you moved."
Never again. I decided that if I sat up in a tree over some rotten meat in my back yard in West Virginia I would be much more comfortable and have just as good a chance at bear.
Just be sure you know what kind of hunt you want, be sure the hunt purveyor understands what you want and personally speak with some hunters that have hunted with said outfitter.

Camp Quetico
I went with a group 2 years ago to Camp Quetico in Ontario. We stayed for a week, fished during the day, hunted in the evenings. It was sitting over bait. We used candy cigarettes and blueberry sauce. Used a thermocell for the bugs. Didn't get bit once. I got a nice 200lb bear with my 30-30. Not the biggest but nice none the less. Most of the others used bows. The harvest was down that year so we killed at 50% rate for our group. Around $1500 bucks for the week, all meals included.

I'm going a week from today. Fish AM, hunt PM.
From what I've seen, it depends a lot on the time of the year, the area, and the particular outfitter.
The farther north you go, you seem to have a better chance of getting a bigger bear. There are only four bear hunters total in our camp this year. It's a LONG drive. About 18-20 hours from northern Indiana. Most guys want something closer so there's more competition. 500# bears are there for the taking if you're willing to pass up the first dozen little guys that come in.
If you look in the fishing photo gallery, about six pix in you'll see some goofy bastage in a camo hat and Chicago Bears shirt holding a 33" walleye. That would be me.

That is black fly season. They will friggin' chew you apart. It's already frosted where we're going, so it should be better for skeeters. Black flies should be long gone. We're taking Thermocells and bug suits just in case.
