I REALLY wanted a Benelli M4, but I know that is out of my reach, so I'm trying to decide between the Nova Tactical, Super Nova Tactical and a Mossberg 930SPX. I have a Remington 870 tactical, and I don't shoot it that often, I just feel like I need another shotgun. What is the real difference between the Nova and the Super Nova? Would I be happier with a "high end" pump, or an "entry level" semi-auto (only using pricing for those descriptions, please no flames)? What would everyone consider a good price for each of these? Thanks in advance for any info or opinions!

One difference, the Nova has a one piece stock/receiver while the SuperNova has a conventional stock and receiver.

Here is my review of the SuperNova that I used for a while before getting my SLP shotgun from FNH. The SuperNova has a Mesa Tactical side saddle on it.

I believe I would be happier with a higher quality pump rather than a lower end semi-auto. But that is just me....you have to decide that one for yourself. I can say I'm 100% satisfied with my FNH SLP.

The Super Nova Comfort-tech is very nice. I just wish they would have made the LOP adjustable another half inch shorter. :banghead:
You can make the non super Nova shorter with a lot of work but I like the Super Nova tigger guard and pins better.

I went with the 930 SPX and love it. Very soft shooting, even with 00 buck. The stock is adjustable for rise and drop. I had to adjust mine to make it lovely.;) The others I have no experience with, but Bennelli makes a fine shotgun no doubt. What about price? My SPX was $589.

The 930 looks really badass and is appealing because it's semi-auto, but I really want a Benelli right now for some reason. The fact that no one around here carries them makes me want one more.

Someone else makes a shotgun with the Benelli inertia system -- it is cheaper.

I wish I could buy a 930 'cause I fancy them, but, a) I don't like/trust complicating gas systems (see c), b) the sights are on friggin' stilts -- incredibly poor ergonomics, c) the gun is plagued with finicky ammo failures to function from all I read.

If your heart is set on a M4 I say save for a little while longer and get the one ya want. You already have a very nice scattergun in the 870 so why not save for another couple of months or a year and get the dream gun:D or as always just get both

Look up some youtube vids of the 930 spx they feed anything from the looks of it. If I were in the market for a semi auto I'd prolly choose the spx. far under 1000, great looks and reliable.

Reminds me of that commercial a few years ago when the guy shows his wife the painting of the karate guy with the afro he put over their bed, He looks at it with admiration and says "Pow".

What other shotgun are you referring to, Hocka? I'm in the info gathering stage now, so I want to consider all options before I drop cash. Thanks!

Benelli Supernova Tactical

If you decide to go the Benelli route I have an unfired Super Nova Tactical that I'd like to sell/trade. I don't have the original card board box, otherwise it's basically new. Its black with an 18 1/2" barrel, combo stock, and ghost ring sites. I can take some pictures if you're curious.

If you're interested in a face to face sale/trade send me a PM. I'm an Illinois resident with a valid FOID card.

Thanks,
Guy

I had a 930. It fed everything from Walmart bulk to three inch buck and slugs. probably shot close to 600 rounds of bulk low brass bird shot without a single malfunction. Didn't clean the thing the entire time either.

 Why do I keep hearing this but nobody tries to raise the stock? What do you consider poor ergos? And the rest of this is bull, wherever you read it. Mine has fed, fired, and ejected everything from light target loads to my favorite 00 buck, about ten different loads in all. From my reading, most SPX owners are quite happy, very little in the way of complaints.

Stevie-ray-
I agree. I only hear +. Only good vids on youtube I've seen. If theres negative vids they are few and far between. And besides all mass produced guns will have a few lemons.

All decent guns, my personal choice would be the nova (no real benefits in the super imho). The 930 is neat if you do end up wanting a semi.

Stoeger 2000 defense is sort of a benelli. I have a +2 Nordic magazine ext, 3gungear side saddle and a benelli M1 bolt handle. Its a a sweet shooting gun. I'm very happy with it.

This is the Benelli knock off that the other folks are talking about. I was interested in them a little while back and did some reading. Apparently the system is licensed by Benelli, but supposedly is different in some key areas for easier production and also so you can't buy the M2000 and then swap a bunch of Benelli trick parts onto it.

From what I've read most of the folks who buy them like them, but I have no personal experience with them.

I looked at the supernova a few weeks ago and dropped it from consideration because the slide release would not release when pressed flush. I had to get a finger nail in there to make it work.

Having used both the super nova tactical and the mossberg 930 SPX, I prefer the 930 SPX and that is the one that I decided to stick with.

My Mossbereg is not my primary shotgun so it doesn't have a huge round count but over the course of few hundred rounds it has run 100% with everything from 3" slugs and buck to wally world bulk packs of federal and winschester.

I would use it as a self defense weapon.
