Fixing up my VEPR I got and was wondering if there is such a thing as an AK carry handle mount. Nothing as fancy as the AR carry handle just maybe something like the HK G3 carry handle. Does anyone make a top plate for the AK that has a bucket handle type simple carry handle. With Bi-Pod and 75 round drum this thing is a handfull. Any info is appreciated. Links are even better.

Galil ARMs have one. Not sure how well they would retrofit onto a Vepr.

The top cover is not a place to attach a handle. Galil's had the handle attached to the rear handguard keeper. I think the handles are an abomination. I agree, they aren't a purse!

My first suggestion is lose the bipod, and most definately lose the drum unless you are defending the Alamo or something of the sort. 20 round mags are great, not so heavy or clumsy. Much more practical.

The drums are cool looking I guess, but are designed for squad automatic weapons, in other words full auto high volume fire. Mostly they are heavy and clumsy.

"Eh, it's his rifle, let him do what he wants with it"

Words to live by. My money... My Rifle. I want a bi-pod with 75 round drum and a carry handle to carry it by. Oh yeah... Purses are slung over the shoulder... you gotta sling on your rifle?

My apologies. Didn't intend to sound like I was telling you what to do. I like the AK platform because they are fairly light.

The Galil handles were attached to the rear handguard bracket, you may be able to find one with the handle. It may take some work to get it to work with the handguard you have on the gun now. They index partly on the barrel shank where it comes out of the receiver, and your's may be slightly different size. With some head scratching you could likely get it to adapt. I had one from a parts kit, think I sold the handguard, front and rear brackets, and handle for about $20 or $25.

I have a drum, they are pretty heavy when loaded.

The valmet-weapons.com site has a board with parts for sale. There are several regulars that sell original Israeli or South African R4 (Galil copy)parts there.

I don't think the receiver top cover would take the strain of a handle for long, nobody has done a handle on a top cover that I'v heard of.

I don't know what all the angst is about...

If I had a Norinco NHM-91, (Semi-auto RPK clone) I would have no problem keeping a drum, a bipod, and a carry handle on it. Not exactly a lightweight platform in the world of AK's, is it? :scrutiny:
