Carry pistol failure..

My carry gun is a S&W 386 Night Guard. Last year I had a similar failure but not from the same part. In my case I was firing the gun in DA practice when after 2-3 rounds the trigger would not move more than about 1/4". I opened the cylinder (emptied it - for the safety Nazis), held back the cylinder release, and the trigger seemed to function normally. Closed the now empty cylinder and nothing. Only slight movement of the trigger.

My gunsmith figured out it was the tip of the trigger (not sure of the proper term) that pulls down on the bolt had warn or broken off. I told him I probably hadn't fired more than 200-300 rounds through the gun, plus dry-firing. His analysis was a part failure, probably aided by "tolerance stack". He welded it up, refit and hardened it, and now the gun functions as normal.

Stuff happens but it is quite unsettling when it happens to equipment that is meant to save your life or the life of someone else. I've put a couple hundred more rounds through the gun but every time I fire it there is a nagging doubt in the back of my mind. I may well have to find a different carry gun. Such is life.
