Carry while in the house?

I carry in the house. I'm carrying now. Several months ago, I heard the door knob rattle so I called out, figuring it was my son home early from college. As usual, I was carrying my snubnose in my pocket. I put my hand in my pocket and walked to the door, carefully looking through the side window, nobody there. As I stepped out on the porch, I saw an older blue dodge leaving our street rather quickly. Carry them guns, fellas. Only a gun that's ready can protect you. A gun you carry with you is always ready.

Not 100% of the time, sorry to admit, but certainly when I am out with the kids in the front yard.

Pretty much when I am wearing something with pockets substantial enough for my snubby is about right.

Nope. I have a loaded Mossberg 590 standing up in the bedroom. The house is sufficiently secured when I am home that it would take a lot of work to break down a door or a window. I feel secure enough knowing I could get to my shotgun in time.

Dope

Yes, I get fully dressed in the morning and stay fully dressed until I retire late in the evening.

John said it so well, "Happiness is a warm gunnnnnnn....

I am at home right now, and my .380 Guardian is still in the IWB holster. There's also a mossberg 500 sitting beside my chair cruiser ready. So yeah :D.

I think that as long as you can get to it in 1-2 steps, it's fine for me, plus my dogs will hear something before I do anyhow, and an alarm system is always on at night, and even if I go next door. I had a home invasion, in the early 80's, before they had a name for them, and if I would have had a Dog,or an alarm, it would have been different. But if someone sets you up, it dosen't matter what you have, they already know.

I find my uncomfortable sitting for long periods of time, and I do some work online where I'm on the computer ~3-5 hours at a sitting. I put it on my desk, and unfasten my belt ... probably look like I just hit up a buffet :D

2 doors to get into the main part of my house, locked anytime I'm home or not home. It's habit to just switch the deadbolt when I let the dog in, or come home from the store or walk in from a smoke, whatever it may be. I also have an AR within arms reach from the chair I'm sitting in now, an 870 in the bedroom, and call me crazy but I've also got a revolver in the bathroom. It takes time to shower, dress, use the toilet, and most of the time it's before I'm dressed.

I live alone, aswell, so I can have my whole arsenal spread around the house but I wouldn't want to be tripping over them ;)

Just in town last night--residents put the smack down on a would be home invader(in the hospital--critical condition)---too bad they were growing weed in the basement and got busted today----lololololololololololol.

I have several stashed thru-out the house, all my daughters know where and how to use them as does the wife, If home i usually have a p32 in my pocket, oh yeah and a louieville slugger at the front door, and have used it more than once on an irate boyfriend of one of my four daughters intent on entering without being asked.
Be prepared, cause there isn't gonna be a maybe next time.

Yup.

Sitting here at my home puter, my HK USPc .40 is on me right now with 13 HV
remingtons at its beckon call.

Not an IWB (my CCW) but a bit more cumfy setup.

Thoughts.......

This has turned into an interesting thread. Thank you, everyone!

I have small children at home and I have always worried about "scaring" them (actually, I think they would be just fine with it but my wife..........). I had thought about the obvious protection carrying at home would afford, but I guess I never thought about the safety aspect of it. Not much "safer" place to hide a ready gun in my home than on my own person (totally in my control at all times).

On a similar note: I keep most of my guns in various states of "ready" in my bedroom (safe for kids, but quickly ready) but we had an incident last week where I saw the flaw in my system. Came home from a VERY short trip to the store; I hadn't armed the alarm system. As we drove in, I saw immediately that the door between my garage and basement was open. I felt this sickening feeling in my gut as I realized that EVERY gun I owned was in my bedroom, which is the furthest possible point of the home from that open doorway. I had to clear the house with the only thing I had with me: pepper spray.

Everything was fine, but that will not happen again.

At home, and not in bed or in the shower, I carry. Wherever it's legal outside the home, I carry. It's always concealed, in case I need to answer the door, take out the trash, etc.

My wife and I were staying at a small BNB in southern VA. When we checked in I noticed we didn't get a key and I asked about it. The inn keeper stated that in 50 years he had never had any issues with crime. After dinner my wife and I were in the room unpacking our bags and I hear the door open. I drew my pistol and aimed (finger off trigger) at the door and yelled for them to stop. I see a head poke around the door and a middle age guy and his wife see the business end of a 1911 and their eyes get wide open. Ended up it was someone who was at dinner and wanted to see what the room were like. Somehow I don't think that they would be trying that again :). After they left I stuck a doorstop I had brought with me (always travel with one) in the door. Now the wife doesn't give me flak for carrying around the house.

We had another incident happen during the 4th of July. We were on our way home and noticed 10 police cars in our neighborhood. On the curb there was a guy in handcuffs bleeding and the biggest German Shepard I had ever seen was rolling around in the grass playing with his ball. Turned out that this guy fled from a traffic stop and the cops had been looking for him for over a hour. He ended up cornered in our neighborhood by a police dog and tried to jump a fence to a golf course. The German Shepard got a hold of him and game over. Keeping in mind that I live in a pretty good neighborhood (700K houses). My wife just rolled her eyes and said that if the police came around and told everyone to be on the lookout for someone that I would have grabbed my AR. :)

I put on my holstered gun along with my clothes as I dress for the day. I usually also have a long gun at arms reach also when at home. AR/AK/12GA, depending on the mood.

Today it's the AK.

Always. My KT P3AT goes in the front pocket of my jammies (sweat pants) when I'm at home. It's with me when I'm outside for whatever reason. It would be a shame that while owning over 50 guns, that I get killed because I didn't have a gun on me.

I think the only thing I can add to this is that my CCW & my HD weapon are the same gun ( CZ75B .40 S&W) thus eliminating the possiblity of forgetting which gun is in my hand in ( and how it operates) a high stress situation. to take it a step further my wifes weapon is also a CZ (82) product & we both carry DA. redundancy & uniformity in training is one of the best lessons the Army ever taught me

There was a home invasion near here a few years ago that specifically targeted the home because said criminals knew there was weapons in there. They tied up, beat the owner and threatened his wife and his familys lives with his own guns because they were out of reach and locked away...

Love the post, I too am inconsistent at home, as the kids get older, I would like to keep an array of firearms within reach.

As M2carbine says "I'm not in a "bad neighborhood" and I plan on keeping it that way."

I usually carry my Walther P22 around when doing work on the land, I just put it in my back pocket. With this, I can shoot plenty of different animals and is a better method of self-defense than nothing at all.
