Been reloading about 3 months on a used Dillon 650 with new carbide sizing die.
I have not been using any case lube as I only load 9 & 10mm and was told no lube was necessary. The sizing stroke was always sticky feeling espcecially the upstroke on the handle. So recently I bought some Hornady One Shot spray.
I cleaned everything up and started loading some with the lube on them. Amazingly, it took about half the effort and no longer had the balky feel.
What I did notice was that OAL started to get inconsistent. What was seating at 1.120 started getting to 1.110 to 1.115. I had to pull a few that I let the primers get low. It only took 3 hammer strokes whereas before, it took about 10 hard strokes. I can see where setback might become an issue.
All that said, I cleaned out the case feeder and started over with some non lubed cases. the first few were easy and then started getting sticky again as the lube wore off. The OALs started to be more consistent also.
I laid the case on the sides in a shallow cardboard box to apply a light spray coat of the lube.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
