What I currently use as case lube isn't very good but I get by with it & have a bunch of it on hand so I haven't looked for anything else.

However watching several here & on YouTube rave about lanolin makes me want to give it a try. Those posting on YouTube say to use 10% of pure lanolin but what they are using sure doesn't look pure to me. I have looked at products that say 100% lanolin then reading the contents find it's mixed in petroleum jelly which is what it looks like in the YouTube videos also.

Do you guys have any insight to this? I was also pondering if thinned coconut oil would work.

I cant speak for the lanolin but I wouldnt suggest coconut oil. It won't perform well as a case lube, its a gun lube. Generic Froglube™. I like using lee toothpaste lube diluted down with 8-10 parts denatured alcohol(or 99% iso) because it doesn't leave a greasy feel on the cases. A $3 tube goes a very very long way. I just spray some in a ziploc, throw in brass, spray some more and shake well. Most of the cases get a little bit of lube inside the case mouth/neck to ease the expander ball and/or case mouth belling. No need to sit there with a q tip and carefully apply lube inside each case neck.

You want lanolin OIL. That's lanolin with the fatty solids removed. You then take that oil and 99% isopropyl alcohol and mix them in a 1:12 ratio. Warm them both up first.

If you take the time to do a Google search for lanolin case lube you'll get enough information to keep you busy for months.

I have read some is why I've been thinking about it. I guess u could extract my own but I don't think I could find that much time. Lol

I use Dillon spray lube on everything except case re-forming. I use Imperial sizing die wax, applied by hand for that.

I've tried just a bout every lube made, and IME the Dillon lube has no equal. And it's fairly inexpensive. A bottle lasts forever.

You know, some would say it's a little pricey, but the RCBS Case Slick spray lube works like a charm. About $9.00 a bottle which lasts me several thousand cases. A couple of quick spritzes on a pile of brass and I'm good to go. And my hands and cartridges don't end up smelling like sheep.o_O

The pure lanolin is odorless best I can tell (after 25 years working in a chemical plant:rofl:).

I have been less than impressed with Imperial sizing die wax. If you really want to put a case lube to the test, try sizing WSSM brass. They require a bit of camover and, the much thicker brass is very tough to size. Imperial wax screams like a banshee during sizing operation on this brass. Have found the Hornady Unique to be superior for that duty; have yet to try the lanolin on the WSSMs.

hps

I've been using the "One Shot" spray for a couple of years. Full sizing .30-06 requires a bit extra. .308 full sized is so easy. Neck sizing is real easy.
From what I read the Dillon is very good too. Just have not tried it.

I use "Now Solutions" lanolin and its worked great so far.

As I'm loading I just dab a bit of the lanolin on my fingers and apply it by hand to the cases.

I've also used Lee's case lube which works fine but you get less for the $$$ vs lanolin (and I think the lanolin works better). I've also used Mink oil as well - also works ok.

One thing that I tried that did NOT work well was wire pulling lube. I'd heard of using that as a tip on the internet and the cases didn't size nearly as smoothly - and I ended up sticking a .308 case in my die. After I managed to get that out I've never messed with the wire pulling lube again.

Lube needs to be removed . So i use RCBS Case Lube-2 is a non-toxic, water-soluble lubricant that wipes off easily, leaving no sticky residue. Will not harm primers.

I would not use a blend containing Hoppe's 9 solvent - SECTION 3 ‐ COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
ID INGREDIENT CAS NUMBER EINECS EU CLASSIFICATION % WT
1 Ethanol 0000064‐17‐5 200‐578‐6 H255 15 ‐ 40

I use a lube pad and whatever Mobile 1 5w-30 drains out of the "empty" bottles after an oil change. Catch it in a little bottle and use on pad as needed. It's just too easy to pick up a handful of cases, set on pad, roll back and forth once or twice, start loading into press. Drag the open case mouth of every third or fourth case across pad to lube inside.

I just can't see any magic formulas or processes easier than that.

This is what I started doing this year. And I don't notice a mucky feel to the cases after lubing.

No need to sit there with a q tip and carefully apply (LEE) lube inside each case neck.

This method may allow more lube build up on one side , inside the neck. I found it to be all to common when seating a boattail bullet. Not all will have the excess lube, only when first reapplying more lube to the Qtip.

Do use an RCBS nylon neck brush with a bit of there lube. The excess lube ,(if there is any)is removed by the expander buttom.

The lube remaining inside the neck, helps reduce cold welding of the bullet to the brass, over a long storage time.

I also have been doing my own bootleg for many years.
I used lanolin and alcohol and works great.
Now I use canola oil and alcohol and works even better.
Both natural and free of petroleum. your fingers will not crack over time.
Wash the brass always anyway.

Hornady Unique for bottle neck brass cases and lanolin/alcohol mixture for straight neck brass cases. Mink oil works also. Much safer and healthier than the old Petroleum based lubes.
