Hi all,

Has anyone used lead/cast bullets out of an XD-9? I have been loading with X-Treme plated bullets, but I can only get them for around 43 bucks per 500. I was hoping to bring my per round cost down a bit for plinking ammo.

I made the mistake of running lead semi-wad cutters through my Glock 20C once - what a mess! So I have shied away from anything not plated/jacketed.

How do cast bullets work out of an XD-9?

Wow. I got 500 cast 9mm's for $17 locally.

I've used them in my XD. No problems. XD has standard rifling, not the polygonal rifling that Glock, HK and Kahr use. Standard rifling = lead ok. Polygonal = lead bad.

I don't know that I'll do lead again though. It is cheap, but it is dirty too. Loading FMJ's is still cheaper than factory.

I have been using cast lead exclusively for plinking for several months now. I have been using 115 gr round noise and 124 gr swc (flat nose). I have had some small leading problems but not bad. I clean my weapons after every outing any way so it is not a big deal, at least for me. I have noticed that different weapons seem to lead up at different rates. I have a Stoger 8000 that leads quite a bit, an XD-9 tactical and an XD-9 SC that is somewhat bad, and a (dare I say it) a Hi-Point carbine that doesn't lead at all, all with the same loads. Don't know why that is but it is.

Oh yes.

I bought the bullets several months ago: round noise; $29/1000; SWC $42/1000. They have gone up some since then, around 20%.
