casting or forging?

ieszu gave a text book definition, i dont want to confuse you but,

actually all metal is casted at one time, iron (and other ore) is smelted and poured into ingots. (spelled it wrong, i think)

cold rolled or hot rolled metal is just what it says: the cast ingots are rolled or pounded into shape, then cut to size and sold.

normal cast metal is usually weaker than homogenous metal. By rolling or pounding (forging) metal ingots they "compact" the molecules, effectively making the material homogenous.

but this deals with the manufacture and production process of the metal itself, not the actual gun and parts...
