Idk if the Flying Texan will be back but I'll offer a slightly different view. I cut my teeth on 1911s of all shapes and sizes. I have trained to a point where I try to sweep the safety off even when there isn't one there.

I will agree that the primary safety is between the ears, anything else is secondary.

Not familiar with the PPQ so I had to look it up.
Based on what I read I think a CZ 75 compact may be just what your looking for. I use a CZ PCR which is an alloy version with a decoker. the 75 compact is all steel, 14 round, DA/SA with a safety. Both of my CZ's, the other is a full size, have been 100% reliable and I'm amazed at the accuracy of the PCR. As I understand it Canik offers a alloy clone of the 75 compact. By the way, safest way to carry any Semi is empty chamber, loaded magazine, that's what I like about them over say a wheel gun.

I carry 1911a pistols sometimes. I usually carry something I can drop the hammer on and use a D/A trigger (Sig P226, H&K USP) but, you have to carry what YOU feel comfortable with. There are a lot of good answers on this thread, but, this is your preference.

I'd like to look for something with more than just a trigger safety.
And there's nothing wrong with that. Many people are satisfied with their Glock trigger safeties, but if you would feel more comfortable with something more then a gun with a manual safety is the proper choice. The S&W M&P 9, the CZ75, or SIG 229 are all worth taking a look at.
