In 2008, I did a comparison between CCI and Wolf large pistol primers in the .44 Special:

Since then I've wanted to compare CCI's small pistol primers (my usual choice) with Wolf's (which have been significantly cheaper). I got a chance to do some chronographing today, and the results were interesting.

I used one of my favorite 9mm Luger loads consisting of Fiocchi brass, 6.3gr of VihtaVuori 3N37 powder (.57cc), and Hornady's 124gr FMJ-Encapsuled bullet loaded to a COL of 1.160" with a light taper crimp. The launch platform was my Beretta 92FS with Crimson Trace laser grips (the only way I can justify recording groups anymore).

Shooting over a CED Millenium chronograph, placed 12 feet from the muzzle, at a target 25 yards away, I recorded the following data (ten shots each):

........................ Velocity .... ES ..... SD .... Accuracy
---------------------------------------------------------------
CCI 500 Primer .... 1176 ....... 42 ..... 11 ....... 2.5"
Wolf SP Primer .... 1183 ....... 27 ...... 9 ........ 1.6"

All rounds went bang, and all functioned the Beretta 100%. I'll probably do this test again in the future with more rounds, but for now I'm very happy I laid in a supply of Wolf primers when I had the chance.

Standard boilerplate: These loads were safe in my gun, but may not be in yours. Never trust data from the internet, including (especially) mine. Start low and work up slowly.

Nice test, thanks for sharing. With results like that one would have to reconsider any questions they had about the performance of Wolf primers.

BTW, the ones you used, where were they made?

During the shortage, Wolf was mostly still available. I started using them tehn, and have since switched to Wolf pretty much exclusive. No issues, they seem to shoot great. Thanks for the test results, it validates my experience.
