What full-size pistols are good for CCW (i.e. lightweight, thin, etc.)

What is a good weight for a full size pistol for CCW
Try to keep the polymer to a low, I love to customize things :)

Depends what you mean by full-size. The new Kahr T9 (which I understand is now available with a polymer frame as well) is "full-size" for a Kahr, but slim and trim, and very concealable. The Glock 26/27/33 series is very short, in length and height, but is fatter, and I think less concealable because of its width.

My full-size carry is usually a SIG P220. It's got an alloy frame, so it's fairly light, and its width isn't much more than a 1911. I like it. I've also carried 1911's on occasion, although they can get a bit heavy after a long day...

I mostly CCW a Glock 23, though. This is lighter and more compact than the SIG, although a bit fatter.

Preacherman has great suggestions ( as always).

I like the 1911 style personally, mine are kinda plain jane as I tend to with basics. I carry a full size 5" IWB.
I will not carry a 1911 style shorter than the Commmander/ Pro Carry size because of reliabilty. Now that said...have seen this gun thread ?

These shoot very well , full size so one has the sight radius, less weight, but the profile of 1911 jsut begs to be carried IMO

Yup, it depends on what each person thinks. A lot of folks like 5" steel framed 1911's. 4" revolvers used to be common. Some folks think a 2" J frame is perfect, others like the Smith 3913 series.

I prefer a Hi Power, or 3" to 4" Smith revolver, all of which can be customized to whatever degree your pocketbook allows. Then we get into the truly custom pistols & revolvers. :D

The gun is to be considered like previously stated........

Popular FS carry guns are 1911's, 220 Sigs, HK's, Glock's, CZ's, Witness's etc.......Lots of great choices. The most important thing is you carry a gun that you shoot well and shoot comfortably.

A proper holster/belt will make all of the difference in carrying a FS gun and doing it well or it becoming such a pain you wont carry it for long.

Make sure you get a good "GUN BELT"..not a 20$ Shopko special that will last you 6 months and not support anything anymore. A double ply gun belt is highly recommended for anything over 32 oz...alot of guns are.

If you carry IWB get a good holster that has loops spread apart widely. This will spread the weight of the heavy gun out for much better carry.

If you get a belt or pancake..just make sure it will conceal and carry like you want/need it too. I prefer pancake holsters as they tend to bring the gun into you tighter than a belt holster, concealing better. If you wear one at say...4.00-4.30 with 10-15 degrees of cant.......It will carry and conceal much better than yould think.

Just make sure you start with a good gun you like and shoot well and get well designed leather to go with it......youll be very happy.

Shoot well.......

I find weight to be the biggest annoyance. I carry a full size Govt. now and then. The weight of it gets to me after a few hours. I now carry a CCO with commander slide and aluminum Officer's frame. It's smaller, but the light weight is the biggest improvement. I think a light weight 5" Govt. model would be just dandy.

I also carry my full size CZ-75B IWB once in a while and in between the CCO and Govt. weight wise. It's not bad at all to conceal, but really needs some thinner grip panels.

Well, as mentioned, it really depends on your definition of fullsized. If you're on the Desert Eagle or HK SOCOM side, I doubt there are any that do carry fullsized guns. If you consider the 1911, BHP, P7M8 or SIP-series fullsize, I bet there are a number of these pistols doing some fine CCW work.
As for the right weight for a carry piece, it will come down to the right belt/holster combo to secure it properly to the carrier.

I prefer the 1911 in 4" to 5" barrels. They can be had in alloy frames to reduce the weight.
I will also carry a Browning HiPower, though this is a bit wider.
The SIG 220 also looks good to me, though I have not tried it, I have known those who do.

Give me a NRM Colt 1991A1. Weight only bothers me when I'm swimming or doing pull-ups.
