Century Arms WASR-10?

I have 2 wasr 10/63s and think they are just fine. Century has corrected the major problems. I did spend an afternoon in the shop, filing, polishing, cleaning, and buffing some things so that it worked Better, something you need to do with WASRs IMO. They will function fine with out it, but work better afterwards. I polished the bolt body and hammer face where the bolt body resets the hammer. I made sure the weld on the gas piston was smooth. I finished the mag. wells with my file, ensured all my mags fit, and a few other minor adjustmets wherever needed. Most things would have resolved themselves with use) Then I refinished the wood, and Now I have 2 nice, very funtional AKs.

On my last trip to the range, I was able to keep my rounds in a small pie plate (4"?) freestanding at 50 yards, rapid fire. I was using my loose mixed-up ammo I have had for years lying in the bottom of my ammo can; it was a very random mix of Wolf & Golden bear (russian), Copper coated (chinese), some random hollow points (East German), and a few brass cased commercial rounds. So better groups are more than likely possible, shooting from a rest and with better/same ammo.

You have to love a semi auto center fire rifle that you can literally feed ANYTHING and it will shoot it. You read so many posts about certain rifles not liking certain ammo or even small differences is batches or lots causing problems.....Not with an AK! :D

They both shot remarkably the same.

Sorry to dredge this up.
Local Fleet & Farm store has these (I assume Century Arms) on sale for $399 and I'm contemplating getting one for fun. A few people have said to inspect them before buying. What should I examine?
From what I have read here:
Make sure the front sight is completely vertical
That the mags fit and can go in and out reasonably well
Overall finish / make sure rivits are still there.
Anything else I'm missing?

Well, the gas tube as well, but that's really it.
Keep in mind if it's a recent manufactured one it's probably OK. Century has gotten better in recent years.

I wouldn't use window cleaner to clean the gun as it is water based and can cause rust.

They might have meant that you can use window cleaner to neutralize the corrosive salts left in the gun from using surplus ammunition, but you still have to dry and oil it afterwords.

Info about corrosive ammo cleaning here: http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinCleaning.htm#Routine

J&G has Romanian wasr 10/63 SFP and SFW's with Tapco folding stocks for a $140 difference. Can somebody tell me what SPF/W means and why big difference in price?

"Window cleaner containing some magical element that negates corrosive residue" is a myth.

It's the water content that sluices the corrosive salts away, not any chemical.

I never mentioned Ammonia. ;)

my roommate has a wasr 10. it shipped with 2 steel mags and 2 polymer mags. the poly mags are total crap and actually FALL OUT of the rifle during firing... kind of funny. the steel mags are perfect and function great.

the rifle functions well when lubed and is plenty accurate. just last week we were at the 75 yard line and were nailing a 5" bullseye with the open sights. like i said, its plenty accurate. totally fun.

google classic arms. they always have great AK deals.
Sorry I couldn't help myself. I had a WASR 10 and that is good compared to mine. That really isn't that good. Hitting a 5 inch target at 75 yards isn't accurate. I am not trying to be rude. If you want to improve and stay milsurp for around that price, look at a Garand. I stack shots on top of each other at 200 yards with open sights. The AK sights are poor blade sights. At least you can get match ammo for the Garand. Have you ever seen 7.62 x 39 Match Ammo? No I am really curious, do they make it? Would it make a difference in a rifle that has a barrel that bounces like a spring when you shoot it?
