Century introduces C93 Sporter - HK 93 parts rebuild

Mixed feelings about this one:

-PROS: I love the HK93 after seeing Turkish troops carrying it around. I'm intrigued by the roller design, so a mini-G3 in 5.56 sounds great.

-CONS: it's made by Century, of "workshop of drunken monkeys" fame.


In any case, the HKPRO forum says Century apparently got their hands on thousands of parts kits and put them onto some receivers an American firm made for them. Somebody claimed the MSRP would be $600 (which would be amazing), but the first one to hit GunBroker is going for a fair bit higher:

I sincerely hope they have a different species of monkey building these than built the G3/Cetmes.

Grinding bolt heads is NOT the way to go.
 
Not bad looking. i bet it will sell with that price. People are hungry in this Obama era.
 
Last century, for a handfull of years, I owned an HK93, a rifle that I found to be superb. Like an idiot I sold it having been made an offer that I couldn't refuse. While I love my CETME and PTR91, if this allows me to rectify my mistake in selling my 93, then I will be one very happy camper.
 
I want one. My C91 has been a great rifle. The assembly monkey must have been on a potty break. It is put together correctly.
 
+1. HK33/53/93 mags are pricey -- the cost of laying hands on 10-12 of them (pre-Obama) was one of the things that kept me from chasing after a Vector clone too hard. I haven't checked recently, but I can't think that the arrival of the Messiah in the White House has helped prices much for them.

FWIW, I've had a few friends say that their roller-system Centuries (G3, CETME) were actually really nice. So long as CAI doesn't do any ridiculous cut-corners like dremeling bolt-faces down and jamming them into the receiver, this could pan out.

I am a bit let down that someone like JLD didn't just buy the thousands of parts kits, since I trust them to make decent in-spec receivers and assemble things properly far more than Century. But hey, here's my chance to buy a HK93 at an affordable price.

I would say "these will get inflated just like everything else", but so far Saigas have remained perplexingly affordable despite the Obamanoia. So maybe the HK93 is obscure enough that true shooters will buy them up and the panicked masses will just buy another 10 Doublestar lowers at $200 each.


EDIT: I kinda wanted a collapsible stock for one of these, but the stock costs half as much as the rifle does.... Hey Century, how about you go find us some collapsing stocks? I'll pay an extra $100!

They have increased in price greatly in just the last year. They were simply very inexpensive to begin with.

If these run I would be interested in one as I like the desing but the high mag prices are one of the factors that put it down my list aways. When one figures in mag prices all Stanag mag rifles look more attractive.
 
I wouldn't own one if someone handed it to me and said "enjoy", unless it had been from the HK factory.
 
The built by Century Arms would have me a bit worried. Granted Century has great customer service but I think that is one rifle that if I was interested in, I'd have to see the rifle in person and inspect it first.
 
A shop in the area has been selling these for $850. For $600 I probably would buy one but for $850.... I handled one and it seemed to be well built. Sights seemed straight and everthing locked up tight.
 
I wonder if the folks at CAI are aware the their company is synonymous with the employment of epileptic primates that suffer from a substance abuse problem?
 
I've got a feeling that the owners, at least, are laughing their way to the bank daily on that. The actual guys doing the assembly -- I'd guess most of them are familiar with their reputation, may tend to keep corporate morale from getting too high . . .

big fan of the design.but if your going to buy a firearm any firearm never buy the bottom of the barrel.cheaply made semis are heartache and frustration waiting to happen,especially with the cost of ammo.spend a few hunded more and get something well made and with good c.s.oh,yeah.... and get it in 7.62. way cheaper mags,way more reach.:evil:

Your point is lost on me. If I had to venture a guess, the Hoarding can only go on so long. Even Dianne Feinstein has now said that they aren't going to reintroduce the AWB (until she's re-elected that is). They want to stay in power. As Obama plugs on without an AWB or Ammo Ban, people will start to get complacent and stop hoarding. Prices will fall alongside production ramping up to pre-94 levels. The market will be awash with good, cheap ammo, semi-auto rifles, and more magazines than we've EVER seen. In the end, Obama/Holder/Clinton/Pelosi/Feinstein will go down in history as better gun salesmen (sales-chicks) than even the ponderously anti-gun Bill Clinton himself.

More guns + More ammo + More clips = More supply = Lower costs = More for me!!!:D
