Cerakote a rifle questions

I have two rifles cerakoted. One done by a local guy and one done by Pac-nor. Both are holding up well. If you're attempting to coat one to look like regular bluing, I'd suggest midnight blue for your color choice. The one done by Pac-nor was the barrel only. You can't tell a difference from the barrel to the action in color.

It’s good if it’s done right. I’d be careful about how it gets done as it does change the tolerances in a gun. That might be something to ask the sprayer depending what kind of rifle it is.

I have several both professionally done and 2 I did myself with spray on Duracoat. Surprisingly the spray one has held up well on a PPR and an AR DMR build. I have not noticed any tolerance issues but only the outer surfaces were coated and these were modern sporting type rifles which may make a difference. The downside to the spray on was to let them sit for a month to fully dry and harden. However, I think that is what made mine successful.

I have a bolt gun with everything cerekoted. the bolt, lugs, extractor etc. every surface that is not the chamber, firing pin, fire control surfaces or inside of the barrel is coated. it is smooth, looks sharp and provides good corrosion resistance. a few spots on the bolt lugs show some wear, but it is small areas of exposed metal and the cerakote holds a light coat of oil very well so even the worn areas are protected.

I like it, I would gladly get another rifle cerekoted, but as others have said, verify it is well done or that the areas to be coated are not critical fits. I would do my own barrel if I could, but I would send the action off to a professional, then again, I might have rattle canned a shotgun and might rattle can my 3gun AR soon

Just make sure you check there website and have an authorized dealer compete the paint job. Even then make sure to check reviews of who you are considering. I have seen a lot of forum posts about botched jobs. When done right it's great. Son's of liberty gun works and Androcorp would be two decent places to check out. I think right to bear does it too and they are a great place to work with. Stay away from Olympic Cerakote if you run across them. They were a sponser at ar15.com but lots of issues
