as the title states I used wheeler cerama coat to refinish my Taurus 905. midway had it on sale last month. pretty easy to use just disassembled and degreased it with Gunscruber, hung it from a coat hanger and sprayed. Then bake for an hour. I think it turned out good.

Does the rough finish along the cylinder ring give it a gritty trigger pull?

no, I can't feal any difference the timing is good and the bolt drops in just right.
 
I did my daily carry S&W 642 two years ago. Finish has been holding up very well.
Little shiny on edge of front sight. Black sights give a much better sight pictures.
Back of grip frame is holding up well.
I left the cylinder stainless and didn't do the screws.
You will be happy you did it.
