I know there are lots of people out there that think that facebook/twitter are stupid. Bottom line, though, is that many credit them with helping Obama become president because those websites reach millions of people. Why not use those websites to our advantage?

I have been posting pro-gun articles on facebook to support our cause. Many of the articles have been shared by my friends. Hopefully those articles are then shared by their friends, and so on. While we may not get any anti's to change their minds, we can get people who are on the fence about gun control on our side.

Anybody who does not have a facebook or twitter account should sign up and start doing this. We need to get pro-gun messages out to as many people as possible. I would think that non-confrontational articles will work the best.

And of course, contact your elected reps, even if they are completely anti-gun. All elected reps care about are votes, and if enough people do not support their causes, they'll either drop the issue or change their stance.

I agree

We can use those methods and here's a counter proposal for those who say post armed guards at schools.
Tell them , just as prison work centers have done for years, to have a couple of teachers, who are willing, to train with a handgun every year. They earn a little extra cash and it saves money for the district by not having a salaried , sleeping guard! Further, a couple of thumb print opening security vaults for their weapon.Only they can access those guns. And when they do, they are loaded and ready. Just sayin.

Or tell them that the president has armed guards. There hasn't been an attack on the prez in 3 decades. How many attacks on schools have there been in that time?

The armed guard point won't work very well since we have many more schools than POTUSs in that time (~100,000 public grade schools each year X 30 years vs. 5 presidents) AND the President is a known target while no individual school is in addition to the fact that a lot of resources goes into identifying threats to the POTUS so they never get close to the guards. Still with all of that focused on one person holding a particular office 13 attempts on the 5 POTUSs were stopped in the past 30 years. There have roughly an equivalent number of school shootings in the same period of time out of the 100,000 schools over that 30 years

Yes, but I guess my main point being that we'll protect our president with armed guards but we won't protect our children. People know they will be shot if they attack the prez (although it is unlikely they will even get close to him), and they know that schools are gun free zones.

Maybe I just need a better way to phrase the argument.

"Or tell them that the president has armed guards."

Obama has received the most death threats of any president ever.

From guess who?

Gun-toting racists. And they ain't "liberals" or "anti-gunners."

Yet another problem for sane gun owners.

Try another argument.. like, Rosie O'Donnell has armed security guards, bit doesn't believe in anyone else's right to carry...

Donate what you can to the NRA. Contact your reps and in a polite fashion tell them your pro gun stance. For example I myself am a father and wholeheartedly believe that my right to carry a firearm lawfully helps me to be able to protect my family if god forbid needed. Firearms will assist a potential victim thwart an attack and pistol free zones are dangerous in nature. "Monsters" like the one in Connecticut ignore signs and laws and attack. Cpl holders have a fighting chance to defend. Write every politician you can and support the NRA as well as smaller 2 amendment groups. If you have never this before do now.

Try another argument:

The number of reported threats rose from 2,400 in 1965 to 12,800 in 1969.[11] According to some reports, President George W. Bush received about 3,000 threats a year, while his successor Barack Obama received about four times that many.[12] This figure has been disputed by Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan, who says that Obama receives about as many threats as the previous two Presidents.[13]

OP, excellent point. These are modern tools that can be used. Like it or not, social media is here, and there are many on THR who are adept at its use. Use the heck out of it. For many people, that is ALL they see and use. Those powerful tools have been used by the left very effectively, we can use them too.
