Change Grips on Vaquero BH Revolver

I have a Birdshead grip Vaquero pistol S.S.,in .45Colt. The grip hurts my hand & I had thought about changing them. From the discussion on the poll over the BH or VAQ it seems I would need a new style grip for the change. Is this correct or am I wrong?

Pretty much I think.

A new grip frame would be necessary to change to full size Blackhawk/Vaquero grips.

I am not aware of anyone making round butt to square butt conversion grips like they do for S&W for instance.

Do you have the New Vaquero or the OM (original model) Vaquero?

I am not sure . That's part of what I am trying to figure out

I bought it right after they brought the birds head Vaquero model out. If I pull the grips off, is the size marked there?

From the top of my head without looking, I believe you will find that if the serial number begins with a 5x-, it is the original larger Vaquero frame. If it begins with 5xx-, it is the New Vaquero frame. Two digits, original. Three digits, New.

Also, the New Vaquero Birdsheads say "New Vaquero" on the side of the frame. ;-)
