I am thinking of changing the wood stock on my Ruger Blackhawk .45 and I am wondering if the frame has ever changed on a Ruger Blackhawk so a handle could fit on one but not on the other.

O.K. here goes: The Ruger Blackhawk/Single Six revolverrs all have the same grip frame with the following exceptions: Early Three Screw Blackhawks had what has become known as the XR-3 grip frame. This closely duplicated the Colt Single Action Army grip profile. Around 1963 or so, the grip frame was modified slightly and became known as the XR-3RED brip frame. In 1973 the New Models were introduced and the XR-3RED grip remained unchanged, but known as the XRN-3RED. Then came the Fiftieth Anniversary flat tops which reverted to the profile of the XR-3 grip frame, but changed the position of the locating pin holes.
Gripmaker CaryC offers this help: Draw a 3" square on a piece of paper and place the grip panel with the heel of the grip in the lower left corner. It the grip is contained in the 3" square, its XR-3RED: if it is shy of the 3" square, its the XR-3 style.
