I recently had a heart monitor prescribed. For esoteric and arcane reasons, it's worn on the right side. I have four weeks of this. I explained my difficulty to the cardiologist and he scowled, saying, in effect, "Go lefty." Actually, he was sympathetic since he also carries strong (right for us) side. I tried wearing my J frame in the left front pocket but that was awkward on the draw. I'm currently trying crossdaw IWB, the holster at 10:00. It's not ideal, considering my paunch and all the other concerns about crossdraw. It'll get the job done, though; a lightning draw isn't in the cards even with my strong side pocket carry. Has anyone else out there faced a carry switch situation and what was your solution?

Maybe his reccomendation of going left ain't such a bad idea. I had to train myself to do it
Seeing as to how I am left eye dominate and yes it took some effort but the way I see it
is now I have two fairly strong sides to work with incase something bad happens to ether arm. This may be a blessing if you take advantage of it.
Good luck and God speed

I believe I would have to just move the right side holster further around on the back side.

I actually carry that way quite often when using a long gun in the field to keep the handgun out of the way of a slung rifle or shotgun.

Position the holster above the right hip pocket, and even us "belt-hole challenged" guys can reach it about as fast as true strong side hip carry.

In other words, if you can reach your medicare card in your billfold, you can reach the gun just as easily.

Four years ago I had my right hip replaced and it was not possible to carry strong side during recovery. I bought and tried a SmartCarry and found it to be a great carry choice. It took some getting used to (mostly psycholgical) but once I got over that I found it to be a highly stable and effective mode of carry.

I can now carry any way I want but find that, from time to time, I will use the SmartCarry in a particular situation. Google it up and see what you think.

I put monitors on people all the time, none of them are required to be worn on one side or the other. What kind of rig did they give you?

If for some ridiculous reason this thing can't be moved and it's so big that you can't wear your gun in front or behind it then follow the doc's advice and go lefty. Because I carry my wallet in my right side back pocket and my knife in the front I often carry lefty when off duty and I always carry my BUG weak side. It seems awkward at first but it's easy to get used to and shooting and close ranges is no big deal.
