Seems there are varying opinions on ole Charles. I am totally new to the brand but saw an add for this one and love the look. A chrome shotgun just seems bad arse to me. Besides, that was my grandfather's name, so there is some novelty in me buying one.

Home Defense is good of course. But I also want something just to blow the hell out of targets on occasion as well. At the same time though, I don't see myself putting tens of thousands of rounds through it either.

My local Wally World or Sportsmans Warehouse doesn't seem to have a shortage of 12g shells like they do in every other caliber.

Anyway, thoughts?

Good product? Good for the money? Gonna go bang every time trigger pulled?

They are good shotguns for the money. It's a very simple designed shotgun and similar to the 870 but no parts interchange though. It's very easy to break down and clean. It has a thick aluminum receiver and the forend isn't steel reinforced which adds up to a very lightweight shotgun.

If CD has a parts supply for them I would have no problem with owning one.

Here is Their new Tactical models out this year. I have been reviewing the Pump and plan to do writeup on it soon with pictures.

This is the one I am reviewing. I am not crazy about the long forend but love the PG stock. The forend can be replace with a standard one and CD stocks them I believe. It takes Rem chokes and the breacher choke tube can be replaced with a standard one. I would sell the breacher tube and get some of my money back. It's worth about $40.

It looks interesting, with an MSRP of $299 for the bright nickel finish. It ought to be pretty attractively priced when it shows up on the big-box store racks.

If only it had been introduced twenty or thirty years ago and were still in production, it would sure make the purchase decision easier for me, at any rate. Proven track records mean a lot to anyone who has ever bought a newly introduced firearm and had a problem with it after a few years- when it's no longer in production, parts are scarce to unavailable, and it's hard to find anyone to work on it.

It may well be the best thing since sliced bread, I don't know. It may be like the plain little FN Police pumpgun that I got for- what- $275 NIB or so, with a Parkerized finish, rifle sights, short stock and choke tubes from the factory? I got one, and I should have bought a dozen of them. Not knowing what the future holds is a bear...

I'm looking forward to seeing your review of this one, Max.

I've got a CDD SP Home Defense in use at the moment. It is the same model as the tactical without the "breacher" choke and the rail on the receiver.

I've used it with a variety of loads from cheapy Win. target loads to Hornady 00Buck to Brenneke KO slugs.

First thing I did was to change the forearm. I share MAX100's dislike for it. With larger hands I had a problem with hand placement and it also marks the receiver after a short while. Also, I changed out the stock choke for a Remington Skeet choke.

Fit and finish is excellent and it has been 100% with everything I've run through it. After 225 rounds there is no noticable wear anywhere on or inside the receiver. The barrel is chrome lined which is nice for feeding and extraction. It also makes cleaning easier.

The pistol grip is one of the best on any shotgun currently available. It's a copy of the Bennelli PG.
The ghost ring sights are excellent and the gun is extremely accurate at 50 yards, putting 20 rounds of Remington RR12RSB into 4" making a rather large hole!
The trigger group is plastic, which I don't care for but has been 100% and seems well built and thought out.

I'm sure MAX100 will share my experience and agree that the CDD shotguns are a high quality, cost effective, stand alone product that delivers.
