Ok folks, saw what looks to be a knock-off of a Browning A5 over the weekend, a Charles Daly "Auto-Pointer" in 12ga. It's an odd shotgun for one big reason, it has a redfield one-piece scope base welded to the top of the receiver. Yes, you read that right, welded. Blueing is a bit off at the weld site, but otherwise the gun looks like a normal used gun.
Can anyone explain the options for welding on a scope mount? I'm looking to see how hot the receiver may have gotten, as that may be a spot of weakness/failure and a reason to just avoid this one.
Other than the mount, does anyone have any experience with this brand of shotgun? Decent copy? Bad? Run away?
