I suppose this was inevitable but it is still annoying. A South Carolina lawmaker is pre-filling a Bill attempting to require gun registration and assault weapons ban. http://www.southcarolinaradionetwork.com/2015/08/17/senator-kimpson-to-pre-file-gun-bills/

It's interesting how these "conversations that need to be had" never include expanding a legally armed citizen's right to defend themselves.

Given the otherwise pro-gun climate in SC I doubt this effort has legs but considering other recent political flips by SC politicians it bears watching.

I haven't kept up on that event.
From memory the family members and church brothers and sisters all seemed to take the high road.
So I would think they not "inspire" such legislation attempts.
Rather, some jerkweed politician is using the shooting to leverage elitist control measures.

The Aurora movie theater, this SC church...........we know who did the evil.
By all means have a trial.
Then when done, quickly put a .22 rf in their ear canal and bag the garbage.

The more often and faster we remove these evil people from our society IMHO the less likely we will have copy cats or mass shooting in general.

I think the sick and or evil are playing a game of "one-upmanship" and the media coverage enabling.

Culturally we need a generation or two to grow up seeing that this crap isn't sensationalized and is of rare occurance- if it does happen it is dealt with quickly and efficiently. Think if that happens mass shootings will for the most part, fade away.

Current culture is fertilizing the soil for such bad seeds.

Another politician trying to make a name for himself rather than do what his constituents want...

If his constituents don't want this they can vote him out of office. Considering the district he represents, I would be surprised if this is exactly what his constituents want.

Every year in every gun friendly state a bill like that is introduced, its political grandstanding as the sponsor knows full well its going nowhere.

On a positive note, I've noticed a strong aroma of Hoppe's wafting among the pews at church....

Exactly my thoughts.

Even here in Kentucky we had some propose East Coast style draconian gun control like an AWB, registration of guns and licensing of gun owners.
.

Mental Illness...

Mental Illness can not be corrected by more gun control laws. They
know this already but, as always it is seen as yet any opening to attack
legal gun owners.
Maryland is constantly working on/proposing new even more harsh gun
controls. They do not work here (or any where else). As you might guess
Baltimore (like most city's) is our worst violent crime area. It is immersed
in illegal drug activity and other crime. It does not reflect the general
demographics of the state.
Our other problem is Prince George's county that sets directly against
Washington, DC's underbelly.

A lot of churches here have had security teams in place for several years.
Legislation, as mentioned by OP, is feel good only.

"Kimpson also wants gun owners to register their weapons with the State Law Enforcement Division so there is an accurate tracking system."

I'm in the wrong end of the state to help vote this fruitcake out, unfortunately. However, I'll be darn sure to contact ALL my representatives and let them know EXACTLY what I think about this.

There will be no registration. There will be no tracking. Because there is no such thing as "and accurate tracking system" with respect to criminal activities.

Not sure how an assault weapons ban would help.

Pretty sure he bought the Glock 41 pistol after clearing a NICB check (another failed system obviously).

I like that idea and it would save the taxpayers a lot of money.
