Been waiting for Charter arms to release the .45 acp version of the Pitbull. I shoot and reload an enormous number of 45's and think this might compliment my arsenal. They are already out there in 9mm and .40 cal. Who has one and what do you think of it. The opinions that I have heard about Charter Arms in general have been all over the map.

A typical Charter revolver would be the closest equivalent of a Makarov semiauto. A glossy magazine called them "blue collar revolvers". (Coulda just said "rough around the edges" but nooo, gimme a one-liner.) Anyway, everything works, no frills, the cylinder locks with a grind and a snap, sights are plain ramp. There isnt much to break. Try one at LGS.

I don't know that you'll see a .45 ACP version; It might require a complete rework of the gun. There just may not be enough material in the cylinder to safely increase the chamber diameter another 0.022" over the .44 spl version and run a higher pressure cartrdige.

A .45 ACP is higher pressure than .44 Special?

A .45 ACP is higher pressure than .44 Special?,,,
I didn't know that.

I have two Charter Arms handguns,,,
I kind of agree with "blue collar revolvers",,,
Both of mine function very well but lack only in fit and finish.

The 4" .22 Pathfinder is as accurate as either of my S&W 34's or my 63,,,
The 3" .44 Special Bulldog is a J-frame equivalent hand cannon,,,
Much preferable (IMHO) over a J-frame in .357 Magnum.

If they do come out with that .45 ACP version,,,
You would probably be happy with one.

I'm a true S&W Fan-Boy,,,
But like my Charters just fine.

Aarond

P.S. Have you read anywhere about Charter planning on a .45 ACP version or is this just wishful thinking?

.

Good luck finding reviews.

There are not many of these guns out there.

I don't know how they are going to ever create a .45 ACP revolver - they can't even make the 9mm.

I have heard a rumor though that the .45 model has been postponed. It takes a completely different design for the revolver and they can't piggy back off of the 40 or 9mm.

Heard rumors about a 45 acp version on the internet so I got on the horn with Charter Arms just a week or so ago. They told me that the 45 version was still in the design stage but that they were hopeful to have it on the shelves of my favorite gun shop by the end of the year. Of course, we all know about the best layed plans of mice and men.

Other than the novelty of a 45acp moonless, why not just a 44sp for the purpose?

I get that, but its a near-snub nose. If you expect to shoot it a lot than I dig.

On July 12th 2012 - over a year ago, I called Charter Arms to ask about the 9mm PITBULL. Dee Ecker told me the revolver was shipping.

It's obviously been a year and I still have never seen one in any gun shop. I barely even see them pop up on the Internet. Besides Gunblast, I think there are only 2 YouTube reviews.

If Charter Arms is saying that they are hoping to have it on shelves by the end of the year, I am sure that means it definitely will not be available in 2014.

BTW, this guy waited 7 months and eventually got the PITBULL in 9mm, took it to the range and on his fourth shot the bullet hit the forcing cone and the cylinder locked up. He sent it back to Charter Arms and hasn't posted an update to YouTube since then:

Well, when it's here it's here. I have plenty of guns and can wait for this one. I was just looking for info from people that had the other versions.

Handled one at the gun shop yesterday and thought the plastic-looking, bead blast finish was a dealbreaker. They had a 4" ported .44 Mag Taurus with that same finish, and I couldn't see owning it either, even at those sub $500 prices. I'm spoiled by my Rugers and S&W. The brushed SS of the Rugers is my favorite look.
