This is absolutely a cartridge in search of a need, but it was a fascinating exercise with Chat GPT. I asked it about wildcats based on the 222 Remington case. Then, whether it could extrapolate ballistic performance data for wildcat cartridges. We then developed an hypothetical wildcat cartridge based on a 222 case shortened to 1.430” (just above the shoulder), and blown out to seat a .358 bullet. It specs out as the 9x36 mm. The AI recommended several names, of which I preferred the 358 Titan. I asked the AI to compare performance of this hypothetical wildcat to: 358 Herret, 358 Max, and the 350 Legend:

If you could integrate access to Quickload, this would be a rather cool tool indeed.

Anyway, it was an interesting exercise. And with a marketing budget, I’m confident that the 358 Titan could be as marvelously not new and unnecessary as so many cartridges we have seen launched :p Although it does seem like a rather nice carbine round. More or less a rimless 357 Herret.

I wonder how it compares to .351WSL?
For its time, the Titan might, maybe, could be a winner in straight wall hunting states. The platform is the only issue. Does the world really need another AR chambering?

I asked the AI for additional names and, of them, I am quite taken with the rather ridiculous 358 Titanus Maximus

Perhaps the 358 Unremarkable would be more suitable?
How about .358SLR - Self-Loading Rifle. That would have the side benefit of driving the hoplophobes bonkers. ;)

you got me rolling !!! … I’m so tempted to take the bait!!!!
I’m not really well versed in the hunting laws of the PNW area. I have not hunted there nor do I have any interest in doing so. Y’all got some mighty big bears!
Unless there is a specific proscription I think you’re safe in assuming a new cartridge will be legal. Until it’s outlawed.

how many shots before the throat is complete burnt out??? 1/2 to 1 shoot? lol

Make it out of stellite and replaceable, jump in your thunderbolt grease slapper and head to the range.

I'm surprised that nobody has necked down the 500 S&W. Maybe down to .44 and called it the .44 extreme. Maybe .357 or 9mm, at least we could get a 9mm magnum.:what:

Neck Down .500 to .454 would be amazing! call it “454 NorCom” use a .405 hard cast with 32gn of H110!
