Easiest way to tell the difference...

'50s was usually on stripper clips, '70s was not.
I think the '70s came in crates of 900, so I'll have to look into this. My dad's mausers love the stuff.

Okay, I checked out the site and they only have the '50s manufacture stuff up, for $1.20 per box of 15. What gives, how do you get to this special deal?
Anyway, if the special is for '50s Yugo, you can have all you want at that price. Everyone that knows anything at all about surplus 8mm agrees that it's junk compared to any other production era and source.

Koo...I can shoot under 2" groups with my 50's surplus yugo out of an m48...at 50 yards. I've found that its great stuff for me. Good accuracy and i've only had about 5 duds out of the last 1000 rounds i've gone through...and they all fired with a second strike.

'50 Yugo may look old, but it's still good stuff. I'm able to shoot 1.5-2.0 MOA, 5 rounds, at 100 yards out of my M24/47 with a scout scope.

Koobuh, none of the umpteen thousand rounds of 50's vintage stuff I've got is on stripper clips. Neither is the 70's stuff I've got.

All that I've ever heard about the '50s Yugo was 'hangfire, misfire, nonfire, squib, corroded, rusty, cracked cases'... on and on. It is typically considered bad stuff. I'm glad you guys got some good batches, for your own sakes.

I guess at this price I'd be foolish not to try some, though, it's a lot cheaper than even the Turk ammo has been lately.

The differences, at least in my experience, is the steel bullets and the copper bullets. I know for a fact that all of the copper bullets I fire are of a later origin than the steel rounds. However, I have never seen steel rounds NOT on stripper clips from where I come from. I have about 20 thousand of them from all the steel cartridges I buy. The copper rounds are much higher quality, is what I'm told. Not sure on the grain on either bullet but the copper stuff is definitely newer.

And to Koobuh, my experience with these rounds are 1/20 misfire. I'm not sure if they are bad primers or the firing pin isnt centered correctly (probably the former). Whatever the case, I have never had one round NOT fire on the second try. Yes, very annoying, but I'm just plinking I am used to these things by now. Both seem to be accurate, however I have never tried to calculate MOA on my Yugo M48. Both rounds do the job for me. The steel round are not allowed on my local range though.

The Yugo 50's era 8mm is good stuff. Especially for the price. Seems to be loaded pretty hot too, the only stuff worse is the Turk ammo. Most misfires, hangfires, etc are linked to this ammo having very hard primers, this is probably machine gun ammo anyways. Most Yugo mausers don't seem to have a problem with it and switching to a stronger firing pin spring will help with the other Mausers.

Depends on humidity. Good rule of thumb is right away, no nasty surprises that way.

Got my shipment today. I opened up one box to check what's inside. It's 1955. Condition is slightly better than the 1953 Yugo I got before.

Did everyone else get stripper clips, too?
